Well first it's his money, 2nd 1800 is not "that" much plus if he sells it he will get more for it without dents and scratches :notsure:

X2. You can't dictate what someone is willing to spend their own money on. Plus it looks like he's just getting estimates.

I "get" that it's a Tacoma, it's not luxurious, and manly man stuff/spike tv/booze/man cave/blah blah tough it out buuut he may not go wheeling or anything so wants that perfect paint job 24/7.
Personally I'd fix it myself - nothing wetsanding/polishing/buffing won't fix. Looks like a stage 2 job.

I feel your pain OP. This morning I was hit by an irrigation Pivot in my Ram 2500. Good thing it wasn't my Tacoma though.

You are both correct, it is totally his call and if it makes him happy to spend the money for his truck to look pristine then I fully support him in doing just that. What I take exception to is seeing countless threads get started in order to complain about what a pain it is that their vehicle is scratched and how bummed they are that they will be paying X-amount of money to fix it. If you have enough disposable income to afford to fix it, then you pay to have it fixed and get on with your life. If you don't have the money to do that/prefer not to spend the money to fix it then you get on with your life. Whichever of these two categories someone falls into, and whether they plan to pay to get it fixed or not, it is inappropriate for them moan about to others. If you were in an accident and your truck was totaled, yet the at-fault-party got away with not paying for your damages, that is information worth sharing. Publicly airing one's finances over a non-issue that is their own fault, on the other hand, is not. Listening to someone tell you how unfortunate it is that they have to fork money over is obnoxious, even more so when it is an amount of money that makes it clear how much better funded they are than others. Sadly, the belly-aching trend continues. This thread isn't even one of the worst offenders. My reaction was swift, although not intended to offend. I would just like people to think twice before waving their money in my face.

2nd, 1800 is a lot to be quoted for this amount of damage. If you can get an OEM door for 1600, these minor dents and scratches should not cost more unless you are having the truck dipped in liquid paint Ferrari-style. As far as resale is concerned, this amount of damage will not make the truck worth $1800 less than the same truck minus the scratches. My .02

You're missing the point. Now you're just going off on what you want/don't want to see, if that was the case then you would be a mod. There's a Walmart bs thread FFS. I don't know if anyone noticed but this thread is from May.

Yikes! I did the exact same thing (not quite as bad) with a t-post, and mine was probably 5 months old. Tried to fill in the scratches with touchup paint and sand the lines smooth...made the problem worse. Now I'm waiting for the weather to cool down before I can touch up spray the area. If that doesn't work I'm gonna repaint the entire bedside. If that turns out crappy, I'm gonna wrap the truck in white vinyl.

The lesson I learned? Leave it.

A bit surprised this thread has given a second life. Anyways the truck was fixed a while ago for a little over $500. The 1800 one was from the dealer, found much better deals of course. Very satisfied with the job they did.
