I took my truck in for the 15k free oil change today and when I got home I popped the hood to make sure everything was buttoned up correctly. I first noticed the foam on the firewall on the left side of the engine bay seemed to be torn with a chunk missing.

Upon further inspection, I noticed there was some foam missing under the brake booster.

So, did the dealership tear off some stickers that used to be there or do I have a rodent problem? I don't see any other signs of mice (turds, wires chewed, nest material) anywhere. I'm just curious if there was something there that the dealership was told to remove as people bring in their vehicles.

I would check your wiring harness to be on the safe side. And air filter

I did. I grabbed a flashlight and checked everything. I pulled the air filter, looked under the engine cover. Nothing.

So what exactly do those foam pads do? Do I need to worry about replacing them?

It is added insulation and sound deadener for the cab. I would not worry about replacing. If I was you I would try and trim the fabric with some scissors or knive to make it look good and no so jagged.

I have no idea when it happened. It wasn't there 5,000 miles ago. I've made a few trips to the cabin this summer. Probably happened there. Sucks it had to happen to my new truck. Just glad it wasn't wire. I can deal with sound-deadener.

Dealer would have no reason to touch that for oil change. Definitely animal chewing...

    Well Normie...
This misspelling is based on the mistaken assumption that connive is actually knive as a verb (compare knife and knives) with a pronounced /k/, as /kəˈnaɪv/ or /ˈkᵊnaɪv/. This perception of connive associates that word's definition with backstabbing and its figurative association with knives. Since kn is typically not pronounced this way in English words, it may be perceived as a slang pronunciation of the otherwise nonexistent verb knive /ˈnaɪv/. The standard verb for using a knife is knife, which is identical to the noun form.
