Transmission Delay Into First Gear

Ive been having this issue for a while and havent really figured out what might be the problem, so if im driving, and come to a red light maybe about 15 seconds into the light i feel my truck kick forward as if it just fell into first gear. Im not sure if thats what it actually is. Has anyone came across this issue or if its normal? 2011 Tacoma 2wd 71000 miles

 

A/C compressor kicking in?

 

AC is usually off

 

At idle at the light you are in first gear I think. Changes in the tach? Monitor and post on that. DBL check the AC, you say it's 'usually' off.

 

What does it mean to change in the tach

 

Is it Something bad? Or dangerous ? Fix able?

 

I have AAL but no blocks and stocks rear shocks

 

The op says he is sitting at the light for 15 seconds . Thats not axle wrap ,He is feeling the famous Toyota throttle bump .

 

There have been a rash of Tacoma's which have been recalled for the Automatic transmissions being under filled from the factory. Sounds like your fluid level should be checked.

 

Thats very true and i agree with you but usually when we
have an axle wrap problem , the vehicle will unload the energy upon an initial stop or
during first accelaration . The way i understand his concern is a bump while sitting at a stop .

 

So I should check my transmission fluid! Should I have any other concerns ?

 

@Lucario Runner , just recently replaced his family member's transmission . Due to a low factory fill.

Checking you fluid level is free and easy. Plenty of Inc on this forum on how to do it. It is worth the piece of mind? Yes.

You said you have AAL's. Did you tighten all of the leaf spring bolt while the truck was jacked up, or sitting on the ground under its own weight?

 

I have a 2011 Pre Runner with the same issue. It started around the 36000 mile mark. It has gotten worse over time. It also seams to be more prevalent when the weather is cold. I have checked the transmission fluid and it was
at the proper level (boy I miss a dipstick!). I do not notice a change in RPMs when it occurs.
