Well after many years wanting one I finally pulled the trigger. Bought a 2015 Tacoma, V6, 4D, 4x4. Any good advice or starter mods ideas would be much appreciated. Heading out to the trails this weekend, even though its stock I still can't wait to see what it can do.

Agreed. Right off the showroom floor, it is a Class A lawnmover transport platform for sunny, dry conditions.

But seriously, look into the tailgate antitheft mod, and also reinforcing it. They've had a history of bending under fairly light use typical of any pickup.

If yours came with the Dunlop AT20s, as mine did, I noticed that they aren't very good especially on grooved concrete. And this is in wram, dry conditions. Perhaps the shocks are affecting this ride quality, too. Many have had this experience, and these tires are very short-lived. So start thinking about that.

The leaf springs are fairly weak, and have had a tendency to sag and even break under fairly notrmal loads and use. Many peopl opt to modify them wiht air bags, heavy duty bump stops, or entirely new and better aftermarket leafs, epsecailly if you load it up or tow. Which, you know, is what pickups are for.

Since you got a 4x4, I assume you wil be talking offroad or in snow, or both. Suspension improvements in the long-term are justified here, and if you live in a snowy, cold area with salt treatment in winter, look into additional frame protection in the form of Fluif Film or similar treatments to defend against rust.

Any other mods are largely cosmetic, or a matter or preference for your needs and use, or sheer lunacy and poor fiduciary restraint.

Oh yeah, don't run out and buy a bunch of that TRD crap. It's overpriced and useless.

I would start with a good quality air freshener, not one of those autozone pieces.

    Wtf are you on drugs?

Op asked for mods, he wants to hit the trails, you said anything that's not TRD isn't worth buying here and it's pricey, trd doesn't make rock sliders, where does he get them from then?

It's a commodity truck that Toyota has become lazy and greedy with in a competion-free niche, will show its weakensses if pushed hard (unlike to good old days), but still provides a decent value and good platfom for improvement. For which there is a SHIT TON of AWESOME aftermarket support.
