About 200 miles after buying my '08 (used) I noticed the TPMS light was on. After ensuring it wasn't a tire pressure thing I noticed the valve stem on one tire was different then the others. The dealership I bought it from was 100mi away so I took it to a local Yota dealer. First 3 people tried telling me it was tire pressure related and I had to show them in the book what the dash light looks like for a "pressure issue" and how it looks for a "TPMS failure". Finally got them to take the tire off and look at it and they found inside the tire a broken TPMS sensor and duct tape. Evidently when they other dealership put new tires on they broke one of the TPMS valve stems. Not wanting to pay the $$ to replace it they TAPED it inside the tire and put on a basic stem. That worked for a couple hundred miles until the tape came loose and the TPMS bounced around inside the tire and broke. I called them and they didn't believe me at first (said their guys wouldn't do something like that) but after I emailed them pics they quickly cut me a check for the service. Not once did they apologize and in fact made me feel like I should thank them for paying for the new TPMS and labor from the other dealer.

Same deal here, but not so bad. My truck came from a dealership in Merritt Island Florida (kinda cool, since I used to live there), and was transferred to Toyota of Tampa for me. They decided to peel off the Merritt Island dealer sticker and put their own on the tailgate. Somehow their service monkey managed to scuff up the paint and put the sticker on crooked. When I pointed it out, they buffed it (still not perfect) and put on another sticker. When I got home, I removed their shitty ad and gave it a proper buff. Toyota really should put a halt to this, as they spend millions designing these trucks and the dealerships just f$%k them up with their propaganda. If they would have drilled the front bumper, I would have dropped the deal on the spot.

A slew of pricey stuff my wife hates me for.
I went to the dealership I bought the truck from for the oil changes and mandatory service intervals. After the second winter I asked them to check the air filter when they were doing their "services" and replace if necessary. I get it home and pop the hood, the air filter is disgusting, as in never ever been changed. Right then and there I knew I had to go over the truck with a fine tooth comb. Pulled the cabin filter, it looked like I had raked the entire yard into it. I never went back.

I should've foreseen issues when I installed my LR UCAs and their "top guy" couldn't figure out how to align it, and I had to go out on the floor and give him instructions... this is after I had already given them the LR instruction sheet.

I have no idea how Toyota of Portsmouth stays in business. Probably all the nice old ladies they sucker into buying parts they don't need.

Bring my '15 OR in at 1000 miles to get the oil out and new in. I don't know if they changed the oil or not, but I'm sure they didn't change the filter. The little rubber stopper wasn't removed and no trace of oil in the bowl under the filter. That's the main reason I brought it in, to get the break on metals out of the engine. I've called this dealership 3 times to get my build sheet, window sticker. They say they have to send it in with the financing for something some bullshit. Windshield is breaking from the inside, have the Toyota Platinum warr. and they wont touch it per Toyota usa, Fuckers.

When I totaled my Corolla last year, I was both devastated and excited. I finally had an excuse to go out and buy a truck I wanted. I have never actually gone through the purchasing part of getting a car before since my parents bought my first car for me (the corolla) I was told the worst part was dealing with the insurance company for the check. That process surprisingly went way too smooth. I got offered 8 grand for my old 06 with almost 180,000 miles on it, when other dealerships wanted to give me 2-3 on a trade in. Went to the closest dealership to me (an hour drive) to look at what they had in stock as far as trucks. Now my parents have been doing business there since 97, sending friends to buy vehicles there, and they have always done right by us. Walk on the lot, looking at a few used double cabs. Salesman walks up. I tell him what I'm looking for, and he asks why I want a truck. I told him it doesn't matter, I have my mind set I want something with 4x4 and I want a tacoma. "Well I have this lovely lexus on the lot" and starts walking towards a sedan. I then asked him what part of I want a tacoma he didn't understand. He looks over at a prius, starts walking that way while talking, and I am just still standing by the trucks. He proceeds to say "You would look good driving a prius, and save the environment." I laughed, continuing looking at the trucks. When he noticed I was not following him, he then walked back, and said "You're dead set on a truck aren't you?" Told him yes, there was no talking me out of it. It's what I want, I work 2 jobs and feel I deserve the vehicle I want to drive over 2 hours a day round trip to get to work and home. Now there was one pre runner on the lot. He tried to show it to me, and I asked him if he was actually paying attention to what I wanted. He merely looked at me confused and said "tacoma?" I asked for a new salesman who actually wanted to know what I wanted. The new guy comes up and we are talking. He starts telling me about the used trucks they have. I told them I wanted a better deal, since buying one new was only about 4 grand more than what they had used. He said he could cut 200 bucks off the price. With that I started looking at a new white tacoma they had on the lot. What an extra 50 bucks a month for a new truck? I told him I would take it right there if they got rid of the bed extender and took a grand off the price, since consumer reports said they were over priced. Salesman talks to the manager, agrees to the bed extender and a grand off the price. Brings up the final paperwork, and low and behold, an extra 400 bucks for the bed extender, and no money off. I told him I did not want the bed extender at all, and what happened. He went back to the manager, came back, and said "How about I take 200 off the price and we keep the extender" I said what? you want me to pay 200 bucks for a bed extender I am not even going to own? The guy said that was the best he could do since it was already mounted. I asked if he knew how they were installed. He said "From the factory already bolted." I asked what he thought they would do with it after they took it off, throw it in the dumpster? No they mount it on to another truck. I told him the dealership was ridiculous and just trying to make a buck in hoping I'm a ditzy blond. He then said "Well in our defense we don't usually deal with women who know what they are talking about. Mostly they just sign away and leave." At that point I got up, walked out, drove another 30 minutes away because that dealer said they had a new MGM truck. When I got there it was the Silver Sky color. For some reason I just hate silver vehicles. The salesman apologized profusely for the miscommunication. Showed me the same truck that was at the first dealership. I wasn't too happy it was white, which was the color lowest on my list of preferences. He asked about what happened at the first dealership, saw how much business my family has done with them over the years, and manage to cut over 3500 off the price to make up for the miscommunication and to build a good customer relationship. I drove away 2 days later a happy cookie already planning out mods in my head.

You hit MANY items that I cringe at when I need to trade.

First - the Stupid Sales Guys.
Second - Wind up spending a few Grand more and get to use the best newest miles of the new truck. The Used are just too Much for the age and Mileage/codndition.
And finally ... Spending all that time to finally get what you wanted in the first place.

(6 Months later they call and ask me if I want to trade again .... yeah right!! )

Good luck with your new Wheels !!

Best part was running into both salesmen again when I went to buy a wheel stud. They asked if I was still interested in a truck because they had a great deal. I pointed to the truck and said yea they gave it to me for a steal, no hassling, and they didn't think I was just some stupid blond. They were flabbergasted at how much they took off the price. Told me it had to be used or a lemon. They wouldn't believe me until I showed them the sales receipt.

Exact thing just happened to my neighbor with his new Subaru WRX last week. Apparently they come predrilled but dealer plates didn't match up so someone drilled 2 more, naturally they were crooked. He was so pissed he said if he knew he would not have bought that vehicle. Sales manager got involved and tried to make it, comped him some door sills. He plans to cover with an emblem but ruined the whole new car experience. Simple communication should not be that difficult however these things happen often.

This is back about ten years ago, before dealerships realized that big money was to be had by making a nice waiting room and it harder to change ones oil. So the service sept was only two people, not 8 like it is now. This was on a 87 4Runner. Bought new control arm bushings and ball joints, I installed them. Took it into Titus will for an alignment. Told me I needed new bushings before they could align it because it was slipping and couldn't keep it aligned. I told them I just installed new bushings. Then he said it might be the ball joints. I walked over to the parts dept, I was on a first name basis with Al the parts guy and had him print out an invoice. I walked back over to service and showed them that not only had I installed new parts, they came from this dealership. Fucking scam. Every dealer is a scam. Wanted 1300 for bushings. Then 1200 for ball joints. It's never under 1k.

Well, I was afraid of walking away mostly because 2015s seem to be drying up, and I got what I felt was a fair deal even with holes in the bumper. Texas requires front plates again now anyway, so I guess there's that to consider.

Ya that's not too bad. Mine has the chrome dealer emblem on the tailgate too. Need to take that off this weekend. Reminds me, on my last Tacoma, I brought it in for service with plates mounted w/o frames. When they returned the truck to me, they had placed their plastic frames on lol. Threw them away when I got home.

Propaganda is definitely the right word for it.

That sounds terrible. At least I can plug my bumper's holes and have it look decent again. I would have been more upset if they were crooked.

Just picked up my truck on 08/12/2015 at Toyota of Santa Barbara. Ill throw this in first to make it clear before I tell you the BS, I purchased a 2011 trade sport from this dealer a few years back.

So i bought the vehicle on wednesday, some of the most disgusting and pathetic service I have ever seen in my life. The finance guy I was dealing with was having me sign everything electronically in a manner that I truly had no idea what I was signing let alone what could be done with my signature when I sign the little electronic pad. he basically told me to sign and just pointed at different points on the lease contract. After telling the guy I wasn't willing to just write my signature on their electronic pad because I didn't know what could be done with my signature, and that I would sign a print out of the contract. he proceeds to tell me that my real signature isn't as good as the electronic one and, word for word, says "fine don't sign anything then" proceeds to walk out of office saying "I'm getting someone else I can;t deal with this". When I tell you guys I was sitting there thinking "what the fuck is going on!!!". They are lucky it was one of the only MGM's in the area because they did not provide good business.

Yesterday, 08/14/2015, I went to the dealership again by myself to drop off the pink slip of my old car and pick up the check they owed me for trading my car in. When I walk in the dealer, the guy (named hector) asked if I had the pink slip, I said yes and told he he could verify the vin but i wouldn't hand it over until I saw my check. He literally "tried to yank it out of my hands" and let out a little laugh as if him snatching something from me was funny. No bitch. I looked at him and said, "I doesn't work like that with me, get me my check that I was told would be ready for me when I got here". I was furious. Never returning there ever. I felt like I was trying to be taken advantage of because I'm young (21years old) and that doesn't fly with me!

When I purchased my 2013 new, the finance guy asked me to sign papers that I would never sue Toyota for any reason. I told him that if I had an issue with my truck that wasn't being resolved and I needed a lawyer, I would not only sue Toyota but I would also sue the dealership and his ass. Needless to say, I paid for my truck and left without signing those papers. These Toyota dealerships have some set of balls!

Survived my two years of ToyotaCare. At the end they called me up saying that they wanted to "extend" my coverage two years for $500. I told them I needed to think about it and said it was kind of ironic that my term was up in like 5 days, a month away from my next service. They told me they'd do the service the next month to allow me to think about it. Got my service. Thought about it. Take my truck to the dealer for service????? HECK NO!!! I've got a mechanic for that. And he only does the necessary service. No $300 premium services for this kid.

My warranty describes my truck as a TRD Pro. The price on it says little over 35000 which is the price of a Pro but the VIN is correct. SR5 4X4 which has a MSRP of 27257. So I don't know. Dealer, and everyone else, says they go by the VIN not what it says. But the price does not add up.

On Friday I wanted to get my free service since the maint light was on. The dealership next to my house was fully booked, so I decided to try the dealership where I purchased the truck. Toyota of Tampa Bay on Fletcher. So, I roll up and the place seems busy but efficient. I check with my assigned service adviser and he isn't in his office, so I pull forward to the main desk. Wait by the truck for a bit and he shows up. Not a bad wait, about 5-6 min.
He takes my info and we walk to his office. He enters in the info and says " the computer wants me to change the oil". He says synthetic oil is good for another 10K. I tell him to go with the computer. He then asks if I want the induction system cleaned for $150. I ask if that's in my ToyoCare. he says no, but they recommend it. I tell him maybe next time.
I then wait an hour and check on the truck. It's parked outside the service bays. So I wander around and find the service manager, and ask a status. He says it's done and they should have called me. No charge, so off I go.

I get home and check the manual for service items at 15K
Check installation of driver’s floor mat
Inspect and adjust all fluid levels Inspect wiper blades
Lubricate propeller shaft (4WD models and all Prerunners with 4 cylinder engines)
    Re-torque propeller shaft bolt
Replace engine oil and oil filter 1
Rotate tires Visually inspect brake linings/drums and brake pads/discs

Inspect the following: __ Ball joints and dust covers __ Brake lines and hoses __ Drive shaft boots (4WD) __ Engine coolant 4 __ Exhaust pipes and mountings __ Front differential oil (4WD) __ Radiator and condenser __ Rear differential oil __ Steering gear box __ Steering linkage and boots
Additional Maintenance Items for Special Operating Conditions 2 Driving on dirt roads or dusty roads: Inspect engine air filter Tighten nuts and bolts on chassis and body Driving while towing, using a car-top carrier, or heavy vehicle loading5 : Replace front differential oil (4WD) Replace rear differential oil Tighten nuts and bolts on chassis and body

Hmm, nothing about induction system but it does state "CHANGE THE FIRGGIN OIL"

So another stealership to avoid. They better hope I don't get the Toyota survey call.
I'm going back to Wesley Chapel Toyota. At least they aren't diving into my wallet.

I usually paint a small mark on the filter so I can tell if it was replaced or not. No issue at all with my local dealer so far, just a case of "trust but verify"
