This thread should be stickied. So many other threads recommend methods that are incomplete or entirely wrong. The OP got it just right.

It seemed like no matter what mods I put on the truck, that ugly ass frame stuck out from the back and sides/wheels. I couldn't get over it, so I did something about it.

Sticky would be cool, but I don't expect it. I posted a few pics last year and I got quite a few messages on how to, so i made this. It'll get buried again and maybe resurface at some point.

Breaks my heart to see your frame in that condition.

Looks like it turned out amazing.

It is a shame given the money Toyota has spent replacing frames and the bad P.R. that they couldn't just treat the frames before the truck was built.

Thanks for the information, here in Tn the biggest issue will be waiting till it gets into the 80's instead of being 96-98 every day for weeks now. i image being in that full body suit and respirator would be miserable enough when it is 70 or below, but these temps are murder.

And i agree, this really needs to be a sticky this is the best wright-up i have found on doing this sort of thing.

I'd probably wait until mid to late fall to do it, if I had to do it all over.

Yeah it really is a shame. I was hoping I wouldn't find holes and then have to deal with Toyota replacing it.

They use lots of salt on the roads here in the winter. It wouldn't be so bad if Toyota had handled the frames correctly, but I decided I liked the truck and wanted to keep it for a long time.

Ahhhh Salt Lake City.. Actually just had a layover there recently. Prettiest view from the plane.

Shame about the salt and rust indeed.

how much por-15 did you use for 2 coats, and did you need 1 or 2 cans of the internal spray? wanting to order enough, but at the prices of it, not a excess

I used chassis saver on my frame. We had the cab and bed off and cut a lot of the frame and plated it. There was a bucket full of dirt and rust inside of the frame. Check out the build for pics.

2 cans should do it honestly. I'd like to have my frame boxed off but I'm not sure if its worth it.

Thanks, you figure a quart of por-15 will get 2 coats?

Eastwood and Rust Bullet make quality products that complete with POR-15. You could check the prices on them.

a quart will do 1 coat. I bought 1 at first and had to run to the supplier in between coats.

Eastwood and Rust Bullet (as mentioned above) do make products that compete. I cannot assume the prep is the same, but it would make sense if it was.
