As long as the wiring is the same for the current back up camera and shape the same, should fit, but I think they are way different. Would probably be easier to just but a complete tailgate and swap or the pop and lock.

The question was what do you think, not know. Members of the forum have seen the "16" in person and as anal/OCD as most are here I would have thought someone might have noticed if they looked the same size (so maybe) or absolutely not (different size).

Your absolutely right though. This should not have been a thread. Should have asked the question I Pop and Lock thread.

Hell, obviously I'm new at this shit.

If you can manage to stamp a recess in for the handle and change out all of the lock hardware on the inside of the tailgate then yes.
    Look at the pictures.....different beast.

@RCRcer, we all have been thinking the question you actually asked.

The 2016 handle looks much larger, and the camera is on the other side.

The 2016 Tacoma OEM lock has to be better than the Pop & Lock Chinese crap lock available for the 2nd gens.

I want that tailgate swap. If the cameras switch over I know what I'll be getting!

A tail gate that will look like it came from a different truck?

I prefer the smoother look of the 2016 with the pressed in Tacoma vs having all the emblems on the tailgate. First thing I did when I got the truck was strip them off.

I know the 2016 Tacoma tailgate lock should fit the current Tundra gen since that's the tailgate lock and camera it came from.

Side question for thought, if the 3rd gen. tailgate fits the 2nd gen. I like the look of the stamped lettering.

It looks like there would be small conflict of body lines near the top of the tailgate but curious.
