Sorry, guys, if I'm asking one of those "not again" questions, but I did a search and couldn't come up with an answer.

I'm working on wiring a powered Pop & Lock to my 2013 Taco. Following these instructions but I don't have the middle pillar because this guy is using a crew cab and mine is access cab. I tried the back seat seatbelt panel at the back of the cab and couldn't find the wires (blue/black & blue/red). Then I just cut open a random bundle of wires (pics attached) and couldn't find it there either.

Now I read somewhere that it was actually better to wire to the passenger side for a reason that's over my head. If I find the correct colored wires there, can I just splice in? In other words, is a specific color wire the same thing everywhere in the truck?

Thanks for helping this DIY truck noob!photo 1.jpgphoto 2.jpg

Get a test light and poke into that wire and press the remote twice to unlock your passenger door. If the test light goes off, then it's the correct wire.

Wiring to the passenger door wiring is to limit the number of unnecessary unlocking cycles that the pop&lock mechanism has to go thru and extends its life. You dont need it to pop and unlock the tailgate everytime you need to get into the car, do you?

So the adventure continues... I was able to find the proper wires, and used the squeeze connectors to wire it up. But here's the problem! I can't lock my truck with the fob... when I press lock it just gives me one long continuous beep and nothing happens.

When I press unlock, the doors, and the Pop and Lock, function as expected. I thought maybe I hadn't clamped down hard enough on the splicers, but they seem to be fully seated. Can anyone offer some advice? Thank you!

OK nevermind... I'm dumb. The beep was from me trying to lock the truck with doors open. All is well. Thank you for your help, everyone!

And tailgate thieves who make all of this necessary... GET A JOB!
