those 3-4way speakers use multiple cheap tweeters instead of one quality one. just about every high end speaker will use a single tweeter.

pioneer is a great brand but remember they have a low end range <$70 and a high end range >$300

i had a pioneer head unit and Installed 4 aftermarket speakers. The quality was good but it just didnt get as loud as i wanted so i went to wally mart and bought myself a 2 channel amp which i mounted under the glovebox. then used the unused outputs on the deck to run another set of tweeters. i havent changed this setup since last year and never wished for more.

    Agreed.

Polk i would add to the $$ list. I should have put Pioneer in both the $ and $$ list, as well they do have top shelf lines in the $$$ range.

thanks, that's what I was "assuming" but didn't know for sure and you always pay a little extra for those 3-4 ways then the 2-way or coaxial speakers

since you're not running an amp, make sure you pay attention to the sensitivity of the speakers.

I would like to pose a question similar to my speakers question.

I would like to ask you to please list "your" opinion of the top quality name brands of stereos and and in what order? or rather lets just trim it to the mid ranges so skip the $ and the $$$ choices and just give your $$ choices.

im asking your opinions so I can better determine if its worth paying a little more for one brand over the next. keep in mind im NOT running an amp with it so it needs to be something under $150 that has power to run 4 Kicker 40CS684 6"x8" 2-way Car Speakers by itself

I don't need Pandora or blue teeth or any of that, just a simple straight forward fm radio and cd player is all I need but I do want a blue display to match my dash.

    thank you

If you are not going to play CDs, then no need to get a CD player.

I would go with a digit media HU: http://www.crutchfield.com/p_105KDX320B/JVC-KD-X320BTS-does-not-play-CDs.html?tp=5684

This way you can plan for the future. It has bluetooth so you can make/take phone calls on it hands free, play music from a phone (with the Pandora, etc app) and you can still integrate a portable device either through a 3.5mm jack or USB.

Earlier you said you do not play CDs. If you play CDs then disregard my previous post.

Most head units now have the ability to choose from dozens of colors. Blue is obviously a popular choice.

no you are right, I did say I do not play CDs but I still want the option and I guess the dinosaur in me things that feature ads value for some reason.

please feel free to recommend straight digital media stereos, I just automatically look at ones with CDs out of habit.

also, many of the stereos do have color display choices but many don't as I have been finding out after checking the specs on them. if it doesn't say color variable display then you only get the display color in the picture

Im looking at all of these, calling for 60-70 watts RMS.... id be hesitant to hook them up even to my little alpine mrp-f250, which is going to produce 40x4 RMS, 75 max wattage. Ill have to withhold my recommendation other than finding the lowest power rating of the lot.

Also since youre not worried about CD's, you might want to try this Pyle double din. It looks fairly plain, which it why i picked it, as it looks little it could be OEM for our truck. No CD player, but it has built in bluetooth and hidden aux/usb inputs. I may upgrade to something later on that has true 4 channel output, but in the mean time this only cost me about $50 from Amazon.

Also got this to make a clean install without hacking the factory harness. Im using an amp so only 3 wires will be used, but im also splicing off the ACC line for some relays im going to be installing.

That JVC is the one I recommended above. It's the successor to the one that I have. It's been great in its performance for me.

now for the question that has been bugging the living hell out of me.

are these 5x7 speakers that they just call 6x8 speakers? because it seams like they make speakers in a 5x7 frame that bolts into 6x8 mount so they are calling it 5x7/6x8 or am I missing something here? every 6x8 speaker I look at says its also a 5x7 so wtf?

its either 6x8 or its 5x7 but it cant be both?

    Short answer: Yes.

Go on Crutchfield, enter in your truck specs and it'll give you options that only fit your truck. Some may say "needs minor modification" (having to tap one mounting screw into the bracket, etc)
