Differential Oil

For 2014 2.7 4x4 manual. I am finding various recommendations for Front and Rear Differential Gear Oil - Conventional or Synthetic....Something about synthetic not being good in Limited Slip Differential ( which this truck but not sure that it is active all the time or only activated when needed.
Manual calls for all GL5 gear oil but doesn't say whether Synthetic or Conventional.
Manual Trany fluid is GL4 and so I am wondering if it would be a problem to run GL5 in everything?

 

Sweet...the LSD sounds like a pain...was that something on earlier Tacomas?

 

2008- TRD sports had them [mechanical LSD], as well as some SR5's

Not sure about trans oil, but diff oil, good clean

75w-90 of any brand is better than old stuff.

 

Wouldn't recommend it.

The GL4 is likely still recommended for the health of the synchronizers.

Proper API rating and viscosity are more important than syn or dino.

A SoloII car I ran for 12 years had similar specs as the Tacoma. I chose to run syn products, both to extend the change intervals and to give a little more protection when thrashing about.

I used Amsoil Severe Gear, 175,000 miles later I had no complaints.

 

Oh...anyone know of a good GL4 oil...they did not have one at autozone

 

IIRC correctly the following are all GL4. But check close before you buy.

Although all these are 'modern', I've used (and a bunch of acquaintances have too) all 3 under some pretty intense conditions. The Ford product is the newest on the block, and for many of us has been the elixir that changed some notchy shifting 1st gears into snick snick butter.

Check it out. If it meets/exceeds the Toyota specs, I'd not flinch to give it a try.

Warning. It's not cheap. Many of us found the best price, believe it or not, over the counter at the local Ford dealer.

OTOH, you should easily get 50k of service out of it.

For the trans I use the Redline MT90 on 40,000 mile change intervals. It is expensive, but likely worth it. Its not sold locally for me so I get it off of Amazon.
