Nice. We did Angels last fall, and the gorge.
Taking notes for your upland camp site. We did not have time to venture out that way.

anyone here good at identifying wild plants - particularly in MT and the Rockies? Found a plant a couple of weeks ago and I can't seem to identify it!
It was growing high up , alpine, at around 9000', in crevices in the rocks. The leaves were small, about an inch long with the circular clusters about 2 or 3 inches across. The berries (?) were about 1/4" and soft like an overripe grape. Kinda reminded me of a "hens and chicks" type plant.

Kinda looks like an artichoke spread out.

I couldn't find any that are known in Montana - at least wild or native species anyways.

I am too lazy to go find my plant book. But dang, it sure looks like one. But with variation.

I wonder if there are actually 2 plants fighting for the same spot. There is a succulent there and the other thing has a long stem...makes me think it isn't the same flower.

OK. So hens & chicks will grow in MT. Maybe not in the really cold parts but in the right conditions, they can grow.

Saw the same plant in several spots along the trail. Various sizes (this one being one of the larger ones) and they all had the same leaves, berries and flowers.
my mom has hens and chicks in her flower beds but their blooms look nothing like this. And I can't find any wild or native varieties.

There's a succulent place in Helena...maybe send them a picture? This was kinda what I was going off of but didn't find the exact plant.
