It needs a flush and change every 100,000 miles.
If it was GM product, then yes, the tranny would need to be dropped and the case opened! LOL
    Toyota, oh, what a feeling!

why would you drop the tranny and open the case? I just always dropped the pan and replaced the filter or cleaned the screen. Done it more times then I can count.

We get it, you know how to service a tractor. We are talking about automatic transmissions.

You're comparing a hydraulic environment to the environment of an automatic transmission. 2 totally different worlds. There is so much more involved in an automatic transmission with ATF vs a hydraulic ram with
hydraulic fluid. Your comparison is apples to oranges.

Well, isn't this confusing! I just purchased an 08 AC V6 4X4 with tow package. The previous owner towed a 21' fishing boat regularly. Currently at 67,000. Flush or not?
    Thanks

Go for it. Toyota recommends it at 60000 miles if the truck is towing/severe duty.

As you can tell from all of the previous comments in this thread, you could receive a number of answers, 2 of which are:

    a. Yes - flush it
    b. No - do not flush it

Toyota started out with a 100K interval; then later reduced to 60K if severe service has been encountered. Your new-to-you truck has 67K on it. Yes - it has the tow pkg. which should mean that it has among other things, a transmission cooler. Some might say that because of this you can forego a flush/fluid change/whatever you want to call it.

But...you were not behind the wheel of this truck from 0 - 67K. You really don't know how it was used. If it were my truck. I'd put some new transmission fluid in it asap. I would also change all of the other fluids and filters unless you are 100% sure they were recently changed.

    Just my 2 cents.

Apparently you don't understand automatic transmissions. Automatic transmissions have planetary gearsets (like a transfer case) and lubrication is a very big part of its job. There are also plenty of bearings in an automatic transmission. ATF is simply thinner than regular gear oil since a pump provides the pressure to actuate valves and the torque converter. Using the term "hydraulic fluid" is very general. Many different types of incompressible fluids can be used as a hydraulic fluid.

Since we've established that the A340F and A750F don't take 25 gallons, what does this point matter?

I talked to the local dealer and decided to follow their advice, change the fluid.
    Thanks for all the replies.

So normal conditions no towing, does Toyota just recommend to inspect it?

Pretty sure it's recommended to change at 90 000km in the Canadian service schedule

I was bored a few months ago so I did a complete 3-gallon flush with a lawn and garden sprayer in my driveway for $60. It was fast and easy, only had about 50K on the ODO... :D

Transmission. I used the cooler in front. Disconnect cooler from hard-lines, attach clear vinyl tubing to hard lines, place into bucket, and start truck. Let truck pump old fluid out about 3.5 liters, shut truck off. Manually pump new fluid back in the return line with $8 lawn and garden sprayer from Walmart. Repeat process 3 times. Reattach factory hoses, do fluid level check procedure. Dispose of sprayer in trash can and throw paper towels away. Took about 1.5 hours, total cost was $60. I used Valvoline MaxLife ATF. All of this is documented in another in another thread somewhere. I think I linked to it and my build thread.
