What exactly is a noob question and why do we need yet another thread dedicated to noob questions. Isn't that one of the purposes of a forum where we can ask questions and keep the discussions is separate, easy to follow, threads? Instead of mixing a bunch together? Or maybe we need a thread with links to threads that are dedicated to noob questions which, in turn, contain links to threads about specific questions? LMAO!!

    Major fail!!

Did you miss the very 1st line in this thread???

"ok so based on the frequency of all these new threads asking the same type of Qs over and over, i'm gonna make a system (inpired by mike's post here) that'll lead them to their answer or a faq before they can create the thread."

Bob says he will develop a system to better help people find the answer to commonly asked questions before they start another thread asking the same thing for the 100th time which causes the search feature to be less effective. This thread is to help him know which questions are asked most frequently. He didn't explain what his 'system' is going to be, but it doesn't sound like it will be a thread with a bunch of links in it, there are already a bunch of those called 'stickies'.

The purpose of a forum is to provide information, if the info is already there and has been discussed then why should it have to be asked again and again only to be given the same info or links to the other threads?
If there are many threads on the same info it clutters up the search feature and makes it ineffective which leads to more threads being started on the same info since the OP doesn't want to read 100 threads/pages to find his answer.

Obviously with 200 posts you are not someone who is answering the same questions over and over again .

I completely missed the new members section. I've always just used the site navigation on the left side of the home page to get to certain topics. Or the search option. Perhaps the New Members section link needs to be on the home page under the site navigation/discussion box.

I think there should be a tutuorial on how to use the SEARCH feature.
That tutorial should be manditory as they register.

And, if they're new (like, under 100 posts or something) - when they try to post a new message...a box should automatically pop up that says, "Did you use the SEARCH feature?" There should be a link on that popup box for them to go back to the tutorial.

OR ...better yet.... when they try to post a new message....the SEARCH BOX should pop up to force them to atleast try to use it!!

Doesnt this kinda go against the Friendly environment that attracts everyone to this site?

I think that would be better than all the sarcastic comments and  they get in response to posting the same question again.

That'll drive people away. They'll go elsewhere.

If the registration process isn't easy.....then they just won't come here.

What about all those people who come here that only read but never post anything? We shouldn't need to penalyze those folks.

It's the people who post new threads without searching first....that's where it gets annoying.

I think - for every NEW post that people make, the search button should automatically pop up. So atleast, its right there in front of their face and hopefully they'll take advantage of it.

How about somehow informing them that they will be bombarded with questions or requests for pic when talking about their truck or some sort of off roading expedition? Let them know that at TW, we are a bunch of picture whores :D
