Yep. And like before, same old motor, same old transmission. The difference is, where the five speed manual had some advantage over the 4 speed ( read horrible) auto, it will lag behind the six speed auto in every way. It will be transformative and the 2.7 of old will take on new life and actually be competitive with the 200 hp Colorado. The torque numbers are close and the low to moderate speed drivability will ( I think) be similar.

The " old" 4.0 l Toyota 2nd gen has similar accelerating n numbers with a five speed auto as the six speed new model Colorado. The new 3.5 with 40 more horsepower should run circles around it IMHO. Even though the official numbers are better GMC has never made standard motors and transmissions in the Colorado that had the all round performance of any Tacoma.....it won't start now, even with the archaic 2.7.

That article is 8 months old.

I suspect the high technology in the V6 is going to win over a lot of would-be 4 cylinder buyers. The 4 banger has maybe 3 things going for it. Better fuel economy, lower price/cost of ownership, and bulletproof design. The new v6 is going to wash away a lot of that fuel economy advantage. It will still be cheaper up front, but with the v6 you get a lot more options, not to mention the power. The 2gr-fks should be a very reliable motor. We'll see how the sales numbers shake out, i suspect they're going to sell even fewer 4 bangers than they did before.

It's quite possibe the V6 will beat the 4 banger in MPG. The 4 banger has not been updated. It's an old engine. When you upgrade to the V6 you are paying for more power and fuel efficiency.
