Anyone that's ordered this from Amazon have an accurate estimate of shipping time?

Just ordered one and it looks like it's coming straight from China with over a Month estimated shipping time.

    2004 thingy
Mine was about 3 weeks. The 1st shipping notice they sent me was bogus. They did send me a second notice after the 1st notice said it arrived at destination. The second notice said it sat in customs for about a week, It took about a week after it cleared customs to make it to my door step.

I have not installed it yet. I'm not thrilled with the amount it chokes down at that elbow. There isn't a good way to eliminate that choke down that I can see. I'll take some pictures with a tape measure with what I'm talking about tomorrow. I might just sell this one and spring for the ARB because it worked great on my 4runner.

I fixed it! My snorkel tube no longer sucks shut on full throttle acceleration. Here's what I did.

I found this wire in my garage -

    received_1066680973343797_zpsharebesa_cc5a27b3114fce85716317374712d7bcb1911f5d.jpg

I cut a section of this wire fencing out and folded it in my hand like this -

    received_1066681903343704_zpsdogggdgp_9771cb9916ffc493ddf41b191264241d64073d0c.jpg

I trimmed off one of the edges because it was too long, then I slid it into the tube like this-

    20150806_110114_zpsplnnjr0s_ff5f90a3088766a5e87964cacf4a39dd854ff4cc.jpg

I put it all back together and tested it 3 times full throttle accelerations. No problems anymore! I'm thinking I could have lined all of the hose with this wire instead of cutting the corner out. But, I already did it so this is all the rubber hose I have left. Hope this helps anyone who might be unsure about doing this project or anyone who was having the same issues as me.

What size is the oval tubing? Would something like this work?

It's some oval exhaust pipe at Summit. Granted this stuff isn't cheap. But I'd assUme it could be sourced elsewhere for less.

    http://m.summitracing.com/search/?keyword=Oval exhaust pipe

    Section that sucks flat.

Man, this is an awesome find, my biggest reason for wanting one is dust, too many times following people on dirt roads and getting fouled maf sensors and trashing air filters. Soon as you do it once you see the issue, but now I'm at 4 or 5 times, just could never justify over $400 for an ARB.

Someone mentioned heavy rain, and I think it's done for heavy dust as well, and one thing that's done is rotating the intake head back, like in this link (half way down the thread) https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/wtb-volant-ram-air-scoop.201332/ Sure you're not gonna want to pull off the road in a driving rain storm though so maybe no perfect solution other than a one way drain valve in the lower point of the pipe somewhere

I completely agree with that^ If you are in a very dusty environment or are afraid about rain water, just spin the head around. Easy peasy.

The head is supposed to face forwards. I can't explain it and I don't have time to google a source, but read up for yourself. The precleaner is the way to go in dusty environments.

If you don't have a pre cleaner, it can't make a big difference

Here's the best one I could find: http://www.snorkels.com.au/g/33706/snorkel-faqs.html Go down the last three highlights. Basically, if you're doing some serious offroading in dusty/snowy/buggy conditions then run it backwards so that you don't have to clean out debris or melted snow. If you're doing some deep water fording running it backwards may keep the push out of the intake. The forward facing design is such that rain water that does make it into the snorkel head is forced out of some drain holes designed into the head itself. By running it backwards to be cool actually creates a vacuum on your intake/engine, which isn't really bad but it's not good either. If it's a boosted motor then it may not matter. Not really discussed on the boosted engines. The forced air benefits are mostly psychological than reality. The colder air from outside the engine bay seems to be the general consensus as to increased fuel economy. I read from about 6 different sites, all of the good ones were Aussie, and they all came to the conclusion of the link I posted. They just argued the point for pages whereas that FAQ is straight to the point.

For the price point it really can't be beat. I may consider getting one and seeing if I can heat and shape it to fit the fender better. Just depends on how the paychecks look in the near future. That and my recent urge for a big bore rifle I have no need for but to giggle each time I shoot it.

I thought about heating mine, but then decided that I would probably make it more deformed and end up calling unwanted attention to the gap

You may have a good point about angling the head back at speed, but most dirt roads I'm not driving over 25 mph to keep the dust down anyway, I doubt there'd be much of a vacuum that would affect things then. The pre cleaner is the best permanent solution, I've read guys on expeditionportal.com say that's the route they chose.

A little light reading from the guys on mud: http://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/question-about-snorkel-hats-pre-cleaners.577908/

One guy from Australia's direct quote: "I have a donaldson cyclonic precleaner on my patrol in oz (custom snorkel). It works fine and other than the odd dead bug spinning around inside rarely needs cleaning even with a LOT of dirt/dusty roads over there. I make it a point to NOT follow other vehicle's trailing dust storms.

I have a safari and standard ram scoop on my 80 here in the US, it works just fine and if snow was a real worry, you can just point it backwards."

Well I'm completely off on a tangent now, but for those interested in a precleaner instead of the ram head for instances of heavy rain, snow or dust, there are some options.

Toyota made factory snorkels for Land Cruisers. -70's mushroom style snorkel head: 17730-66010
-80's 100's bird feeder style snorkel head: 17730-17020.
There are several aftermarket companies including Safari, Sy-klone and Donaldson. There are even EBay knock offs of the Toyota OEM types

Still, from the same guy from Australia I quoted earlier from a similar thread on IH8MUD:

"So, with many many years of having snorkels on my 4wds, especially in oz, I would state IMHO that your choice of 'top' for your snorkel (especially on most US roads) is going to be based on cosmeticsversus true functional needs..."
