Hmmm. So is this a case of (1) engineering errors and not meeting development targets....or (2) is this a case of EPA testing methodology being too myopic and not showing the "all scenario" benefits of engineered changes? Or, is it (3) maybe that the Toyotas will easily meet their EPA results while some automakers struggle to do so? (implication is that they tune to do well on the test, with lacking results in other non-specific situations)

Edit: (4) is probably none of the above and I am merely projecting my thoughts about the Tacoma MPG results onto the Land Cruiser. Ha.

If they were so worried about mpg they shouldn't have modified their truck. I understand about wanting mods but you've just got to accept if you mod with lift/bigger/tires/more weight you'll suffer in mpg. That's why, for me, stupid to complain about poor mpg if you modified it knowing those mods hurt mpg.

Another conspiracy theory is that the new engine has potential to be much more efficient. They are just saving improvements for when CAFE regs get even tighter. Would have to be the case considering the weight, smaller displacement, and new transmission of the 2016 Taco not meeting the Colorado's MPG.

Oh, I did the big city thing for a couple years...it was great when I was younger...now I want to be away from people and out in the boonies...fishing was a bust today, all we caught were sunburns. Though a bad day of fishing, is better than a good day at work. ;) :)
