I've been waiting at least 3-4 years for the redesign (have a 2005 Sport DCLB) as have many others. 2 years ago, we bought a LImited 4Runner for the wife's vehicle, and I absolutely love it. I was expecting similar options/equipment on the 2016 Limited Tacoma. Things that are hard to understand with the Toyota's offering on the Limited now that it is out:

-Best I can tell, the only advantage to the Limited is the Leather seating and wheels....is this really the case? There are no other differences with the Limited over a spruced up Sport or OffRoad? I find that very hard to believe...It is hardly worth having isn't it?

-What happened to the Limited Long Bed? I can't believe that option isn't there. Shouldn't the premiere class offering have an option for the premiere bed configuration? Just doesn't make sense?

-The 4Runner Limited has A-TRAC...a feature that I very rarely need and/or use, but I would still like to have it on the Tacoma Limited for peace of mind? Again, why wouldn't they offer this premiere feature on the top of the line offering for this vehicle? Again, doens't make sense. Any thoughts? For that matter, it seems like they don't have A-TRAC on any automatic (OffRoad and Sport included). Why is A-TRAC only reserved for the manual transmission? A-TRAC is the feature that really sets the Toyota vehicles apart from the competition in my mind.

I just don't get it. I will still be buying one, but it isn't a slam dunk that i'll be getting a Limited now as I had thought I would be all along.

If you don't think it is a slam dunk, then why get it?
Don't get me wrong, I'm all for loaded vehicles, but I do think the Tacoma Limited is a total waste. What are you really getting for all that money? Leather seats is about all. But why pay like $7k over the SR5 version for that? You can get custom leather seats w/ heat AND new carpet for about $1,500 if you self install. You can also get a much nicer audio system installed later on for less.

Don't grossly overpay for the ego boost that comes with a Limited stamp.

Hey I am with you man. I had my mind set on a Limited but when I found out that the leather comes in only one color (tan) and the side view mirriors are chrome I just decided to go with a Sport DC 4x4. I can get the technology package and upgraded JBL sound system. Also I can have the dealer install leather and i would have a better color selection if I let the dealer do it. I must say the Limited has the best looking wheels. Sport DC 4x4 here I come

Shop around on those prices and see what others can install the leather for you for.

I laughed when I found out my dealer was going to sell me Katskin seats for $1,700 installed. It ends up being over $1,000 to install the seats. I can buy the kit and install myself for less than $900. I know they get the kits for less.

The color of the leather in the limited grew on me. I was also not happy with the lack of leather color choices originally, but the cloth seats aren't so good looking either. I also don't care for all the chrome on the limited (chrome side mirrors mainly as the small accents don't really bother me), but even the TRD Off-Road comes with chrome. Either way you go it should be easy enough to buy color keyed parts or just plasti-dip it. On the TRD Models, they give you an ugly front grill that looks like chrome (labeled as Gray grille w/smoked finish) and on the TRD Off-Road a chrome rear bumper. I don' t see the point in the TRD Sport personally. That hood scope is ugly and non-functional and it's missing all the off-road features.

My choice is Limited, all the features/options i want without having to add any special packages. I will miss the cool "off-road" features (see gimmicks: Multi-terrain Select, electronically controlled locking rear differential and Crawl Control). I bet the majority of people will never actually use those features. I am curious to see how the subwoofer sounds in the JBL Premium audio package.

What state do you live in. I may get you to install my leather seats. I suspect the dealers price to purchase and install is too high.

I actually hear that what is frustrating about installing the seats is the learning curve. That sucks up the time. Once you figure out how to disassemble and remove the seats it goes pretty quick. Of course once you figure out the first front seat, you do the second seat, then the backseats are completely different lol.

It would be easier to get a couple people together and just bang out a couple Tacos in a weekend.

The Katzkin group buy on here have pictures of self installed kits. HomerTaco also has a thread with instructions on how to install. I normally don't like to do anything myself because I feel the quality won't be as good (I usually start drinking with projects that take longer than 2 hours), but honestly those threads make it seem silly not to self-install. The kits come out looking awesome.

I am with you. I really wanted the OR but I am now leaning toward the Limited. My question is how hard/expensive do you think it would be to upgrade the Limited suspension to the Bilstein shocks of the OR. From what I've read over the years the OR shocks provide a smoother ride than what will be on the Limited. Do you think the dealer would install them?

I'm with ya.... The Limited doesn't come in an Access Cab. I don't need the back seats and I want to larger bed. I don't need the leather (husband probably wants it more than I do). I'd rather not have the extra chrome on the Limited (versus Sport). I'd love to have the sunroof.... but.... It's one of those things. It might boil down to seeing it in person.
I don't really know. I have to sit down and figure out how I could load up the Sport and see what I'm missing.

What a great thread. On the limited, several reviewers have stated pronounced differences in the suspension between TRD OR and Limited. Not surprising really but it is another difference worth weighing pro's and con's.

ATRAC functionality is still on the TRDOR automatics, it is rolled in with the multi-terrain select. MTS does the same thing that ATRAC but now the sensitivity can be adjusted by the user. Plus you get crawl control on top of that. Manuals get the same on/off atrac that the current TRDOR has. And all the TRD-OR get the locker.

There are more interior features with the limited I believe including navigation, etc. Meanwhile, the biggest problem for me is the fact that the seats are not power. I don't know WTF they were thinking. I may have to buy new seats as soon as they are available with power.

I'm stuck between the Limited.. and I think the Sport..

I want color keyed exterior parts (mirrors, door handles, bumpers), leather, sunroof, and Entune with JBL.

Limited: Comes with most of the goodies and options I'm wanting.. standard.. BUT.. has a ton of chrome and no off road goodies :(

Sport: I kinda like the new scoop  but mostly for the color keyed parts. the grill can be dipped or painted black to ditch the chrome, and done.. BUT.. I miss out on the leather (which I really want, and like the Hickory of the Limited's) but I can get Katskinz if I really wanted. I can get the Sunroof as an option too, along with the Premium Entune with JBL.

Off-Road: Same options as the Sport, but has the black over fenders (which might not look too bad with the white and black theme I'm sort of bias towards) plus the off road goodies.. will I use said goodies? no idea, but I'm one of those "better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have it" type of people.

I'm leaning towards the Limited. I can eventually paint or source color matched parts to replace the chrome.. but.. I'll still be missing the scoop (not a huge deal at all) and the off road goodies (not a huge deal either)

    Ideally.. I would love:

2016 DCSB in 040 (superwhite), auto, 4x4, with scoop, color matched everything, sunroof, leather, and Entune with JBL. The off road goodies are just kinda.. meh.

Lots of chrome hate here. I actually wish I could get the chrome bumpers to go with the chrome mirrors on the Limited, plus the grille.

I really struggled between the Limited and the Sport for my recent 2015 purchase. Drove both. Loved the ride of the Limited WAY better. The upgraded sound system was also killer! The chrome doesn't bother me and I can always order Sport mirrors if I want to. Also like the the larger rim/tire combo on the Limited. My guess is that there won't be much different in the 2016 other than looks and some electronics on the dash for both models.

    I'm happy with my Limited.

I'm starting to lean towards the Sport for the color match, hood, and lower price tag. Of course, after adding the premium audio with JBL and the sunroof.. It wont be too much less.. But.. Still would be enough in savings to have Katskinz installed. Then I get everything I want. :)

Thanks for the post. So the limited and the sport had a pronounced difference in the ride?
