This may have been cleared, so sorry for asking again...

but will the older style OEM bed extender work on a 2014?

What you need to know is the size of bed that the "Older" Bed Extender is for. If the Extender is for a 2nd Gen Tacoma, it should fit without a problem. If it's for 1st Gen Tacomas, you just need to find out the bed size and the dimension's of the extender. The extender's width is adjustable, so that shouldn't be a concern. You need to know the height. As long as the height is shorter than you bed's sides, it shouldn't cause problems. The great thing is that pretty much all bed extenders have adjustable widths, making finding one at a decent price fairly easy.

When I mention height, I mean at the tallest point, which should be where the bumpers/feet are. The Tacoma Bed Extenders have two (2) bumpers/feet on the top and bottom that will touch the bed when not used, the tailgate when used.

    I hope that helps.

Would anyone know where to get the template if one did not come with a bracket kit. Any help would be appreciated thank you.

You don't need the templates! I got mine cheap off Craigslist...minus the brackets. Ordered the brackets, eyeballed where to put them, evened them up with a tape measure, taped them to the bed with masking tape, marked the holes and drilled. Everything works perfect.

Wow, and here I was thinking it just clipped in somehow... seems like a lot of work to add!

It's on my list of things to get though... the 5' bed sure isn't big enough for much!

Bummer I missed out on MJ's extender. :(

Thanks to the OP for the writeup on this. Got mine and installed it Tuesday afternoon. Templates were nice and easy to get lined up. Pretty simple install.

I did one thing a little different though. I used gasket maker on both sides of the holes before I put the bolts/nuts on. I figured this would work really well to make sure no water gets on that bare metal to rust those holes I just drilled.

old bump but were you talking about this bed extender on a 2014?

I have a 2015 and got this same bed extender real cheap and was wondering if it would work.

Technically this is the bed extender for a 2012-2015

    0921121131a_zps54b4fe78_9a99cdcd57649d577908ef8e7d2d9fd66a9b3acb.jpg

But I don't see why a 2011 wouldn't fit. Maybe I may be ignorant since I am new taco owner but aren't the bed sizes the same? Or at least close enough to wear you could make it work?

Any help would be appreciated Thanks

I have the old version on my '07 and since the bed is the same from 05-15, I don't see a reason why the older style would not work. New version looks a lot less useful.

Looks like both are the AMP Research Bed X-tenders with Toyota's name on them. Looks like the 2012+ is the HD Sport style, and the 2005-2011 is the HD Max style. I would think either one fits any 2nd gen Taco.

If you are talking about the older rounded-style one (not the one that has has the 45 degree angles on the side) --- it will fit a 2015. I installed the rounded one on mine. I didn't like the angled one ... it just didn't make sense to lose that extra space.

Install was done 100% according to the included instructions. Just use the included template. My install procedure went something to the effect of : Measure --- then measure again --- and then nervously drill holes through the d-pillar of your brand new truck.

The only thing I did that was a little different than the rest was to use gasket maker (It was this or something similar http://amzn.com/B0002UEN1U) instead of painting the holes that I drilled. This was done to prevent issues with water causing rust.

    Here's a bump for a hardware question:

Unchained has found a source for the OEM extender, thanks man, but it's a few buck more expense than the AMP.

My question is, is there a hardware difference between the two?

I seem to have seen on the board here that the OEM hardware is more robust than the AMP, FWIW
