Ha, I'm the same way. I have to take things apart just because I want to see how they are put together. Usually that leads to a mod of some sort.

    Awesome way to learn!
It's a nice mod, but I hardly use it. For laptop get a DC-DC charger designed for your laptop on Amazon. Electrically a lot more efficient.

On another note, I just blew a hella lot of money in new tires. Went with (5) Toyo Open Country Mud Terrains in LT255/85/R16.

Bomber tough tire, and the largest I'm willing to run on the Tacoma.

I will  when they are delivered to my front door. :)

The plan is to retire the Tacoma from DD in next 6-8 months or so.

Great tire choice, i almost went with them for my own build. Looking forward to seeing them on here!

    A number of reasons.

    1. Toyo MT has developed a long and well deserved reputation for durability and excellent traction.
    2. The tire is also the largest in its class, Toyo specs say 33.5".
    3. Once I realized that the truck will soon not be DD, I did not need to compromise on an AT, and instead go for maximum traction.
    4. On top of all that, the Cooper S/T MAXX in LT 255/85/R16 were on back order for several months and were only a few dollars less than the Toyo's.
The reason I wanted to stay with 33" is, that's the largest size that can fit in the spare tire location.

In September 2012 I installed an oil catch can. And to date it has prevented lots of nasty oil crap from clogging up the injectors in the motor. My catch can is a draft 42 designs catch can. I've been quite happy with my purchase.

This is an old picture, I have since moved the can down by the bumper and got rid of the reducer couplings. You can click on the image to follow to the original install thread.

I picked up a new tool. It's a mechanics stethoscope kit. I tried it last night and I am very impressed. For $20, it's made in America, and works very well. It comes with two attachments, one to hear mechanical noise and one to hear air noise. I tested both attachments, i.e. diagnosing which vent on my microwave oven produces the loudest noise during operation. And light fingernail tapping on a wooden table. It's super easy to use and sound amplification is very impressive.

I need this tool to diagnose the squeak coming from the Dakar leaf pack. Without this tool, I think it's coming from the rear urethane bushing, but I'll reserve final judgement until I fully diagnose it.

Excited to see pictures of the truck with the new tires. 33" tires with a 3" lift like you have done is what I eventually plan on doing with my truck once I wear out these Duratracs and get some higher miles on the stock TRD suspension.

 I'm almost sure some of my neighbors are going to think I've gone completely insane and will probably call county mental health to take me away when they see me with that shit listening to my truck. Haha!

Thanks for the interest. I'm super excited about it. As soon as I get them mounted and clearance is good I'm heading for dirt to test them out. I'll take good pics as I got a decent camera again.

Wow. I should get one of those too. My neighbors have already been telling me that I am obsessed. This will put me right over the edge.

I keep telling them, "I could be selling crack from the house. It's your choice."

Roger that. Thanks Jeff. Nice to meet new people and make new friends. By chance have you been up to Santa Rosa Mountain yet? Real close to where you are. I made it up there in 2014, but could not camp due to fires in the area. I've been trying to get back up there.

....i'v kinda gotten use to the squeaky clean sound emanating from all replaced suspension components, polyurethane bushings of the UCA's, ands it's Uniball/teflon joint to the spindle, and the Dakars seem to be making the least of the noise contribution, but have quite the range of sound,...but last week I mounted up some skinny 255/85/16, and the WHIRRRRRRRR on the road is amazing! seems loudest at 45, less at 60...does ameliorate somewhat the suspension symphony...

That would be a lot of fun. It so happens, I've been contemplating a return trip to DV. Right now my only options would be days between xmas and new years, or some time in Feb, 2016.

I don't know if your a member on ExPo, but in the CA-NV chapter section, there are open invites to organized trips. Last fall there were two that I recall. They were RobRed's and Biker Josh's trips. I'm sure they're will be more this year.

You may have to be logged in as a member to use this link. It's a compilation of all the DV posts in the CA-NV chapter section. There is lots there, more in the trip reports section too. v_mans trip report here is great.

Thanks, your post was helpful. :)

    Thanks! Will do.
