@newtacoma16 hmmm. Really depends on what you want to use the vehicle for. The Tacoma has the bed which comes in handy for so many things. You will obviously lack that with a 4-Runner. I just put a deposit down for the new 16' Tacoma. Can't change my mind about a 4runner vs Tacoma... Look @ the 4runner.... still the 5speed auto tranny, definitely outdated, considering the new Land Cruiser is getting a 8spd auto. Either you buy the 16' Tacoma, or wait for the new 4Runner in a couple of years. 4Runner is using older technology, which is why I am not even considering it vs the 16' Tacoma.

Maybe get the runner now and see if you like the new 2017 model and trade in for it later. Wont lose much value. Tried and true A750F trans, made in Japan not Mexico, and can actually be driven in 4wd without binding. The 2016 Tacoma mpg #s are pretty lackluster too, the 4wd Tacoma will get the same real world mpgs as the 4R.

The 4Runner is leaps and bounds better than the tacoma but the tacoma has an advantage with the bed that's about it.

Absolutly. My 2004 4Runner performed better off road then my 2015 OR..it rode better, was strong and more comfortable. They are just better cars regardless of a older tech.

I have had both. The 4 Runner is much more expensive but it is much more of a vehicle. It has better quality overall and has been consistently rated higher for frequency of repair then the Tacoma. My 2004 Runner and fully boxed frame, discs all around, was quite and smooth on the road and every bit as good off road as my Taco off road for most uses. Everyone who owns a 4 Runner, loves them. I bought the Taco to replace it because of the price difference. If you don't need a bed fine, if you do, I had a ultility trailer. If I had the money,I would have a 4Runner. Now instead of the 2015 Taco. I f you can afford one...BUY IT. waiting for the 2016 might be worth it but dealing for the 2015 for less money is good too. You will not regret getting one of any year ! I am tempted not to buy a new model anything, including the Tacoma.

I sat in a 4Runner this weekend while waiting for my free oil change. It was nice. Didn't drive it, but I noticed the seat had much more adjustability, and the second row a bit more room than the DC Taco (though not near as much as virtually any CUV or large family sedan). The steering wheel is the same. Not really that important, but I noticed.
For whatever reason the 4Runner gets more power than the Tacoma from essentially the same engine. But it's heavier, so that's probably a wash. Comes down to price, eh? Even if you don't "need" a pickup, unless you have a dog or some other cargo that you want climate controlled often, I'd probably get a 2016 Tacoma and put a shell on it, and save a few grand over comparably equipped 4Runner.

    LOL true.....:pout:

I'm waiting for the final look and specs of the 2nd gen Ridgeline. I like the 3rd gen Tacoma but a little bit disappointed. Maybe a test drive and see it in person "might" win me over.......

I started with an '07 Tacoma Sport and put 58k miles on it before trading it in a few yrs back. At the time, it was the nicest vehicle I had owned. I've had my '11 4Runner TE for almost 2 yrs and I absolutely love it - it's my favorite vehicle and I really can't see myself trading out of it anytime soon. It's a much more comfortable ride than the Tacoma. And with dual vvti, I've gotten 24.5 mpg going out to Vegas. It also has a bigger tank so I can hit 400 mi per tank on road trips - that's a big plus for me.
Depends on what you're using it for. But if you don't use the bed weekly, you probably don't need it. This fits me better for hauling mtn bikes and snowboards.

What about being able to sleep in the back of a 4 runner? Much easier set up in the 6ft bed Tacoma's....

If you flip the rear seats forward and sleep diagonally you should be fine...no, i's not as long as a 6 foot bed, but the DC with 6 foot bed is huge in length compared to a 4 Runner. The length of all Tacos DC long beds is much greater making them harder to drive though traffic. Crawl under the 4 Runner and compare the frames......the Taco is like paper mâché compared to the 4 Runner. The engine on the 4Runner 4.0 with dual vvt is the one many wish the new Taco had gotten. Of all the true ladder framed vehicles that Toyota makes for off road remember that the Taco is the bottom of the line.

I'll just add, this is my first pickup, and I've surprised myself how often I've used the bed for stuff, and how infrequently I've wished it was enclosed. The thing is just so useful. And it's so nice to just blow or rinse it out instead of being careful about what you put inside an SUV.

just a reminder, the 2014+ 4runners outside the trail have a hump were the 2nd row meets the rear cargo area. this is due to the slide out tray or if you delete the 3rd row seating.

that will affect your sleeping position.

I have a leer cap on my taco. Interior lighting and the 110 outlet and screens and front can slider make an excellent sleeper with the long bed
