Rob - Hope your Dad is doing better. If he's from the N.E. area, he's in a good place for decent health care when compared to some other parts of the country.

 

Any of you guys have recommendations on a bolt action deer rifle ? I know a few of you hunt .
I'd like to kept it under $600 if possible .

 

If you're not married to the bolt action idea, a Winchester 30-30 is tough to beat for a cheap durable deer rifle for the NE.

 

Maybe a little unconventional, but an old Mosin Nagant would make a good deer rifle on the cheap. I bought mine, put a new stock and trigger on it and am well under $600. It's a long gun though so might want to cut the barrel down and crown the end before lugging it through the woods.

 

My vote goes to finding a used Savage 110/111 and putting a decent scope on it. They're damn common guns (every time I'm at KTP or Cabela's they've got tons of them on the used racks), and with the right scope they're real nail drivers.

Another option is the Ruger American; you can buy one of those brandy-new and still have a couple of hundred leftover for a good scope without breaking the $600 mark. And all the reviews I've read on them is that they're great guns.

Using, I've got a Remington 700 in 7mm Rem Mag that I use for when I'm sitting, and a Marlin 336 in .35 Rem that I use as a brush gun or if I feel like walking. But I've been tossing around the idea of picking up a Ruger American compact in .308 and having a set of irons put on it. Then I'd be covered if I wanted to sit or walk, without having to switch guns.

 

Someone fucked with my clutch adjustment on my bike today during work..... Grrrr

 

Uhoh, what happened? Just the adjustment at the lever or worse? Also, can you text me your mailing address?

 

Most of the mods I've done were pretty cheap. Except the tires. I forgot to put those on the list. Mitas E07 Enduro. Never heard of them before, but a KTM dealer had them. They are great on the road and still good off road. They are showing no signs of wear after 1,200 miles. I wore out a rear Dunlop D606 DOT knobby in 1k miles.

 

These just got delivered for the truck last week.

A friend of mine is selling a 2010 Porsche 911 Carrera 4s. Got to take it for a spin yesterday. What a nice car

 

Sweet.
We had one come into the shop once for a new set of tires when I was working as a service writer. Best test drive ever.

 

They are sweet cars, not sure I'd want to own one though. Can't really work on them yourself, and don't they take like 40qts of oil.
