There is a C clip in a notch that has to compress inside to slide through the spline of the diff.

Try in 1/6th turns. Meaning, Try prying it out, if it dont work. push it back in, turn 1/6th of a turn, tap on it to see if you can get the C clip to fall down into its slot. and try again. You will find a spot where it comes out so easily you wonder why it was being so hard. till you realize that that spot you pulled it out in was the perfect position for the opening of the C clip to be facing straight down.

Also, shops use a slide hammer, which you may be able to rent, or buy affordably from harbor freight.

Don't "pry" with the pry bar. Put the pry hammer lengthwise under the truck and hit the end with a 5lb hammer, so it transmits the force along its length.

If that doesn't work, get hold of a slide hammer.
