What's your thoughts as the military finally decides to move on from those HMMWV (Humvee)
    death caskets?

True, but this thing seems pretty compatible with many different AOs

I think it's a good idea. They aren't used anymore and the mraps are superior in almost every way

Can it be pallet air-dropped? Wasn't that one of the demanded design features of the HMMWV?

I don't think the DOD will ever be able to have a do everything vehicle anymore. From my aspect these trucks are only good for recon type missions. My preference would be the RG for almost all scenarios. Just my opinion.

CUCVs (heck, even hilux/taco based ones) are fine for the rear. In modern zones, that's stateside/allies/traditional battle rear. Less logistical support needed,

Movement to contact? Dismount your ass, bring you real armor and support.

MP ish contact possible patrols? Mrap/jltv style medium skin vehicles and really mobile air support.

Lets just hope we never go back to the jungle. This thing would be useless.

    Depends on the jungle.

I'm a huge fan of dismount patrols, though.

Rear based vehicles it would be fine maybe a recon vehicle.

TIC (troops in contact)=POS. Roadside bombs are going to be around for the foreseeable future, mainly because they are so effective. You cannot effectively clear a route in the MATV. This vehicle would be good for the contractor getting paid but not for the troops. This may be a step up from the ASV because the driver isn't sitting on the fuel tank.

Ahhhhh the DOD preparing for the next war with the previous war's lessons. My opinion is that the policy makers and military in general are always looking for a "do-all" everything. The whole jack-of-all-trades-master-of-none deal. Look at the F-35, F-22, littoral ships, ACU/ABU/Blueberry (Navy) uniforms. (Marpat is really the only one that makes some sense, really) No one that high up ever really asks, "is this really necessary? and can it accomplish a multi-role/multi-environment mission effectively and efficiently?" By the way the only thing ACU/ABU's blend into effectively is themselves, couches, and possibly granite. Ask me how I know....(survival training).
So in my eyes this JLTV only looks like a tank, without the 120mm cannon, treads, and only slightly lighter and more maneuverable... this should have been put into OIF/OEF back when that was still hot. Not much use now that we are "technically" in an "advisory" role....

Not really. There are shitloads of HMMWV roles the JLTV can't do, and really only one or two that it can.

These are lower than MATVs. The rollover risk just a little higher than an 1151 driven at speed.
