so does anyone know if you can program a fob from another vehicle (4runner) to be used on the Tacoma?

how many fobs can the vehicle remember beside the 2 from the factory?

The FOB must have the correct FCC ID. This ID is on the back on an OEM FOB. On my 2015 it is GQ43VT20T. I am not sure about the FOB's but you can only program a total of four immobilizer chips for your truck.

Ha. I guess I am not the only one. This is exact thing I described few pages back in this thread. On multiple occasions I parked my X3 just to find it running couple of hours later.

I am actually glad to have a regular ignition with a key, because I am a space cadet.

My Nissan used to make all sorts of noises from the speaker if I left with the key. IF you choose to ignore those, how is it any different from forgetting to turn the key off. I've known people who have left Diesel 1 tons running in their driveway until they run out of fuel lol. It's a sad world when you can sue for stupidity.

I'm not sure really. Apparently there's scions with MT that have them.

Keyless ignition & central locking is a nice to have. There are a few drawbacks:

    1. Easy to forget to lock the door. I'm not sure how often my wife locks the door, but it's likely not as often as I'd like. I'll have to see if our car has auto locking doors when parked.

    2. Easy to walk off with the only key in the vehicle if the other person is driving. This catches me out. I'll drive my wife's car while she has the key. Then I drop her off. The vehicle still runs, but you can't turn if off.

Seriously, it's 2015 and Push Button Start/Stop is no more of a worry than electric windows (actually, I would think the electric windows have more of a chance of failing). I've had it on my last three vehicles and would never go back to keys that scratch the interior of my car. I also have an electric lock on my house, so I don't actually carry any keys, just the fob for my car. :)

It was on my 07 Nissan Altima - it did have a metal key in the contraption (i believed it was to lock the transmission)...but on the doors there was only an electronic button to press with no actual female locking mechanism.

That seems like a bad design. All the keyless cars I've dealt with have had a piece of the door handle trim that you could pry off to reveal the keyhole for the backup key. Wonder how the Tacoma will be set up.
