Anyone know how we will be able to identify which plant the 2016 tacomas are built? I know for the 2nd gens it had to do with the last numbers in the VIN. Just would prefer something built in US.

    Thanks

May not be a VIN thing but a configuration deal. My dealer's Inventory Manager explained that DCSBs were built in Baja, whereas anything long bed was San Antonio. That may have been BS or have changed - that's just what he said.

I know Access Cabs have been solely a San Antonio product, so there's that to go off of.

I was told on here that vins starting with 5 are US. 3 is Mexico.

The placard in the driver's door jam will tell you which plant....as with all Toyotas.

I'm getting a long bed and the inventory manager kept referencing San Antonio. Although the paperwork I have has a VIN starting with a 3.

My Baja built Tacoma (a double cab off road 4x4) is the best of my 3 Tacomas. In the door jam will be the plant location. Mine says 'Toyota de Baja California', and Baja California is why I bought a 4x4 Tacoma!

Here are a couple of photos of the Toyota factory I took driving by a few years ago (between Tijuana and Tecate along Hwy. 2)...

I do agree with the others about the longbed. My dealer also said mine would be made in Texas. Although I wasn't to concerned about where it was being built I am happy to support my U.S made vehicle....

Too poor to list anything interesting.
Mine begins with a 3 and is Hecho en Mexico. Aka South Texas.

I have a vin starting with 5, access cab, and of course a long bed by default. I assume that checks all the boxes of the Texas made Taco. lol

Id swear I read somewhere that the Baja plant only produces DCSB's. The Texas plant produces all configs. It makes sense as DCSBs are the most popular config you can dedicate an entire factory to just that chassis. I don't know if it's actually true. The VIN will specify the country of manufacture. if it starts with a 3 then its mexico. 1,4, or 5 is USA.

Also the 11th position will tell you the plant. X is Texas, M is Baja.

I have to disagree. They make more than DCSB in Mexico. The only rhyme or reason I know is fact is they make Auto and Manual transmission trucks in San Antonio and only Auto's in Mexico. Ive owned both a Texas Taco and a Mexican Taco and I will only buy a Texas Tacoma going forward.

Otherwise every configuration I have seen with a Mexican VIN which starts with a 3, 5 for US. Also the last Gen TRD Pro's I believe were all made in Texas.

    I don't understand your question?
Yes, Baja California is still part of Mexico (we gave it up in 1848) thank goodness.

Can anyone who prefers the U.S. models give any mechanical reason for their preference, or is it strictly to support U.S. jobs?

I've owned 3 Tacos....a California built, a Texas built and now a Mexico produced one. The Cali and Texas trucks were flawless...never an issue. I've had the Mexico truck for just under 3 months so it's too early to tell. Thus far though....solid with no build/production issues that I can find. Everything is assembled as it should be. From what I've read Toyota's production system ensures a pretty even quality outcome no matter where the vehicle is produced.
