Installed my new model 1012 console vault this evening. Pretty easy. I added some silicon to the lid spring while I was in there to cut down on the spring noise.

There's a pretty big gap between the vault and the actual plastic console on the passenger side. the paperwork says 2005-2008 Tacoma which I thought was odd.

Do you all have the same gap? I'd hate to drop something down there.

Same. If something does drop back there you can always get it out.

Don't cops have to have an extra warrent to search them if they're locked?

best thing you can do is pack the gap with some padding or foam. You would have to remove the vault if something fell back there.
I think a special warrant is needed to open the vault. also, its a safe place to carry and store a pistol while traveling. I often leave my wallet, weed and cash in it.

If it comes to that, yes. With probable cause you will be detained until a warrant is obtained to search the vehicle or console vault. Normal traffic stop probably no issues. Drinking, drugs, K9 going off you are in deep shit.

Thanks everyone. Good to know. I'll cut and put some case foam in there.

I would be willing to bet good money that they will not need an additional warrant to search a locked box in your truck. If they have probable cause and or a warrant to search the truck it applies equally to the console safe without an additional warrant.

Yes but not every cop knows how to break into said vault and would require a specialist and they can only detain you for 48 hours and that's if they really have something against you

    Is this thread really happening?

If you have illegal shit locked in your console, and get pulled over in a situation bad enough to warrant you being detained - you can guarantee a search warrant can definitely be gotten (if needed).

Save the "what kind of illegal shit can I carry and still be okay and how do I do it?" for another forum, methinks.

Several mods here are in law enforcement and TBH this already smells like dumbfuckery.

    Act right.

For some of the responses... I really don't know what to say.

Part of the problem is the mentality people have. There's speak of gun control and the 2nd amendment. Yet, people choose to not abide by the laws and rules and you by blatant disregard are what give legal and responsible firearm owners a bad name, you, by your actions vilianize us as a whole.

Onto the vault. If you think you can chat about illegal activity and not worry about it, got news for ya. Find another forum for your dumbassery.

I paid $300 for the vault. I tried to find a used one or one on sale. Had to go retail. it will be nice to have the extra security.

    Not necessarily

    Not necessarily

    Maybe

    Correct

    Hahahahahahahahaha

I can detain someone for a reasonable amount of time, but if I have PC to get in the vault or to get previously mentioned search warrant then you get 2 options. 1 you can give me the combo or 2. I'll tow your truck to the compound, cut the box open, and then charge you later if necessary....and you can pay the tow bill later after you get out of jail

I'm not saying I wouldn't give the combo plus the fact that I have no intentions of being pulled over or carrying anything illegal in mine I'm just simply stating if you wanted to go the route of being an ass hole the certain cop would have to do what tigerfan said and tow your shit and cut that thing open

Didn't really intend for this to become a legal or not thread. I just wondered if I got the right model. Lol

If law enforcement wants to get in your console they will.
