Anyone ever done this? Wondering if I should hold off on engraving until I decide if I want to cerakote or if it'll still show through

If your engraving is done to a proper depth you can Cerakote several times w/o it ever being anywhere close to an issue. The minimum depth requirement for NFA items is actually quite shallow so any reputable engraver will take this depth 2-3x the required limit making coating a non-issue.

Yes this is correct, if you just want to cover it up assuming it's a ar lower or other anodized part then you can coat with aluminum black and it will protect it. I assume this is engraved with a bit not Lazer engraved.

Even if it's done with a laser if he makes enough passes it will still be deep enough to coat and still meet minimum depth requirements.
