Leave @Rock Lobster alone he's busy building his 3gen Tacoma online. Stop bugging him or he's going to push a wrong button and we'll never hear the end of it.

Christian take you time, save your work & ask all your questions. That way you'll know what to complain about....lol

I'm no electrician. I've blown a couple breakers in my day and have gone through a few crimper/cutter tools in my day. I hate electricity. The only thing I hate more is digging holes and plumbing.
From what I've learned. I thought a furnace had to have its own dedicated circuit. An attic light could be on it but that's about it.
I'm not inclined enough to know exactly what this guy did but I think he took power from the attic light to run a new ceiling fan into my kids room. Which screwed something up on the AC side.

My wife ended up staying home today and she told me he said he never touched anything on the furnace. I turned the air on for him before I left for work yesterday so I know it was working fine. I turned it ON. Not on a schedule, timer, or anything. So...if he didn't fuck anything up it should've stayed on all day until I got home. Supposedly he said it wasn't on (at some point yesterday, after I turned it on and left) and tried to turn it on but it was on a schedule and he didn't know how to override the schedule so he left it alone. I installed that t-stat a year ago. It's touch screen, has a simple HEAT - OFF - COOL button. AUTO - ON FAN. I've never set up any scheduling. I would turn it on when I got home and turn it off when I left.

So now when I get home tonight I'll have to see if he fucked with the TStat settings and I overlooked it. Either way I went into the attic and the furnace plug has no power. I've checked the breakers as well as the "HUGE FUSES" on the wall by the condenser. I know the furnace is working because I ran the extension cord from my hallway, into the attic and plugged in the furnace.

Most annoying thing is he's a family friend (from my wife's side) so he obviously didn't do anything wrong and I'm just overreacting.

Edit: And thanks for any help thrown my way.

Does the attic light still work and how about the fan he installed on that circuit? Could be a ton of things but maybe if he messed with it he made a poor splice somewhere and there's a loose wire but like I said. Could be so many things haha

Attic light and fan work. He called and said he probably flipped a breaker to work and didn't turn it back. I told him I know to check the breakers and I did. The only one tripped was my dryer. (Psst...he isn't working in the garage.)

So the fau in the attic works? Along with light and fan?
When you put it heat or fan the system works fine?
Then when you put it in cool the condensing unit outside does not turn on?
    am i understaning this?

FAU works if I plug it into a different outlet (ext cord from hallway) outlet in attic that is was original on now has no power. Light in attic works. New fan installed works.
System will only turn on if the FAU is getting power from the ext cord I ran.

    Recap:
If I plug the FAU in the attic back into the original plug it was on. Nothing works when trying to turn on with the TStat down stairs. (Heat, Cool, Fan Auto, Fan On)

Afterthought...I never checked the lights on the Edison box on the condenser outside to see if those are on/off/etc.
