I had my 60,000 scheduled maintenance a few months ago. I recently went in for my tire rotation and oil change at 65,000 miles. The technician recommended a 4x4 service, coolant exchange, transmission fluid exchange, and power steering fluid exchange. In total, this is about $910.

Are these not part of scheduled maintenance? Or are they done on an as needed basis, based on their checking all the fluid levels, etc?

I'm not knowledgeable enough about these things to know what is really needed or not. But i was surprised to hear this expensive recommendation when none of these were mentioned before.

Are these recommendations legit at 65,000 miles?

Ripoff, do the tranny fluid and call it a day. Should be about $200 for tranny only. Other stuff not needed at 60k

What does the manual say? It's in the glove box usually. I always review it and have it opened on the passenger seat when I put mine in for service. Makes them... Think. This guy has an idea. Go with those unless you have issues.

Pretty typical dealer pricing. My dealer though, won't touch the transmission fluid. CSR said not till 100K on it. I am trying to get it done at 60K.

Just do oil and filter. Lube chassis. Also depends on what service you have already done previously. Plugs should of been done at 60K if you running Densos.

The scheduled maintenance log is rather vague. For example, at 60,000 it says to check all fluids, retorque propeller shaft, replace cabin and engine air filters, replace oil/filter, replace rear differential oil, replace spark plugs, rotate tires.

Then it lists lots of things to inspect (brakes, lines, hoses, belts, boots, coolant front differential oil, rear diff oil, etc. Throughout the rest of the manual, it never says when to do these latter things. It just says inspect them.

I don't see "4x4 service," coolant, tranny, and power steering fluid exchange anywhere explicitly stated in the manual (that is, "do these at 90K). They are listed as "inspect" for every 5K.

Sounds rather "convenient" to list them as "as needed" at every point.

If I recall correctly, the first time you are supposed to change the antifreeze is 100,000 Miles, then the interval time drops.
