I'm pretty sure our trucks have a 21 gal tank. I think the light comes on where there is 2 gals left.

I've had my truck and have logged my fuel Milage with a app on my phone... Life time average is 17.89 and that's with plenty of miles towing a 6x12 single axle enclosed trailer.
I normally see 18-19 during the summer and 16-17 winter unless I spend a lot of time playing in the snow or drive a lot in 4wd

Got 12.7 yesterday while towing a U-Haul. Got between 17-19 last week. I'd also like to know a better app for tracking. I used to use fuelly, but the Android app is terrible. (made by someone else, not the fuelly team)

Since EPA fuel mileage ratings have been being placed on vehicles I've never owned one that wouldn't match the estimates if driven at legal speeds. When you start modifying vehicles, towing, or driving 80 mph then you see significantly less.

I agree. Except I never got EPA estimated when entirely stock. I'm thinking HWY ratings are tested at 55?

Yes, the truck has a 21.1 gallon (80 liter) tank. The low fuel warning light comes on when you have APPROX. 4 gallons left / or used 17 gallons (+/- 0.5 gallon). I have popped into a gas station many times right when the light comes on, or at various points on the gauge, to test these gas gauge figures:

FULL: 21 Gallons (all figures +/- 0.5 gallon)
    3/4 TANK: 16 Gallons (down 5)
    1/2 TANK: 12 Gallons (down 9)
    1/4 TANK: 8 Gallons (down 13)
LIGHT ON: 4 Gallons (down 17)
    E LINE: 3 Gallons (down 18)

Yesterday, I filled up and the needle on the gauge was just below the E Line... and I put in 18 1/2 gallons.

Doubt it since my 23.5mpg tank was at 65. My Camry SE Sport was rated at 34 I think, but got 37mpg at 75mph on flat ground.

Corrected for tire/speedometer, driving the speed limit, and unloaded, I get 20 mpg on the highway, on long drives... but that is all. 17-19 is more typical. City (around town) driving is 14-15 mpg and lately sometimes even less... I think it is the stupid summer blend, eco-gas full of ethanol instead of car fuel (gasoline) that kills the mileage.

FWIW, I use "Mileage Keeper". Basically you put in your odometer and gallons at your fill up and it calculates everything. Can even export it into a spreadsheet if you want to go that far. Pretty good for a free app. Not sure if it has an android version as I'm on the iPhone

I've been getting about 340+/- 5 miles when my fuel light comes on. Comes out to be 19.5mpg with mixed highway and back country roads. 4x4 v6 dcsb that's stock, just with aftermarket wheels.

Octane shouldn't impact MPGs much as your vehicle's computer should automatically adjust fuel and air mixture based on how it's burning. Therefore, spending more on the more expensive fuels is pointless unless your engine was actually designed for higher octane fuels (such as some higher end performance engines).

However, 85 octane (which contains ethanol) versus 87 octane (which is real gasoline) does prove a difference in MPGs (not to mention arguments for how it impacts the vehicle long term). Ethanol provides more HP at a loss of MPGs.

Around me, 87 octane contains "up to 10% ethanol" just like every other octane grade. And just so everyone is clear, the video discusses Canadian fuels.

Here in the states Conoco seems to be the place to get non-ethanol fuel. That's where I go.

The fact that video is in Canada doesn't really matter. The point is they tested the different fuels and even performed dyno tests to confirm that more expensive gas had no real effect at all. And the fuel companies had no answers either about misleading people.

Yes, I've found that the less gas I have the fewer miles I can go, but that's me, YMMV.

    :D

I've been able to pick up about 1 MPG on 93 Octane, but it's about $0.40 more per gallon.

Just got back from the mountains on a long trip and averaged 20 mpg. Around town 17. This has been consistent for the last 10 years on my TRD Sport.

NOT in Southern California... We can go across the border and buy Pemex in Mexico and get non-ethanol gasoline. The wait in line driving back makes it less than appealing to do so, but great on Baja trips!
