I have had a cover for the past 13 years. It does NOT block your view at all. You guys are worried about nothing.

Exactly, it's the stupidest argument and logic I've seen yet on TW

Chill out. Clearly this wasn't the context:

"if it means I'm about to cut off a Miata that I didn't know was there because it was below the visibility out of my rear view due to the tonneau cover."

Yup, Americans suck at driving in general, and possibly you, too (I give you a benefit of doubt, maybe you indeed thought the context was backing up). What's also typical, when people here make a driving mistake (intentional or not), they tend to get defensive about it (flip you, etc, even if they are clearly wrong) - kind of like you reacted here.

And people here indeed are crashing into each other much more than in most of the civilized countries. Statistics in this case don't lie. It's sad, but that's how it is.

Really, read that link and learn something. You may save a life one day.

    EOT.

    Exactly

Like any study it can be skewed into the favor of the author of the study.

True. I actually checked and the use is not THAT much worse in the "per distance travelled" category as I thought: http://www.internationaltransportforum.org/pub/pdf/13IrtadReport.pdf. It still sucks if one considers relatively low speeds vs. speeds in most European countries.

Anyway, that link about mirrors is really worth reading ;) Peace.

And re the subject - I found 2nd gen Tacoma visibility to be pretty good, much better than several modern domestic sedans/coupes (e.g. Chrysler 300, Ford Taurus, Camaro - few recent rentals I've driven, Taurus really sucked).
