    Nice.

Me and my buddy got out this past Saturday and had some success chasing brookies -

Stream was super low but still ice cold. Gotta love mountain streams.

I got out this last weekend as well :). I helped my gal get her casting down a bit better and ended up getting a nice 14'' brown as well. Just about breeding season so I might go survey some redds with game and fish. Then I could see some massive, aggressive browns!

I also have a sweet fish management and limnology course this semester. Those should give me a bit more knowledge in reading the waters :).

Was stripping streamers for browns and landed this pretty nice pike on 4x Flouro.

    Holy crap. Nice hook up.

Any of you guys fish tiny tiny tiny little brookie streams?

I currently use a 7'6" 3w overloaded with either 4w or 5w WF line depending on how Im feeling. The rod works great for most of the places I fish. But.....

Im looking for something even shorter and lighter, something around a 6' to a 6'6" 2w rod. Something that I can use while crawling around in thick brush. Any suggestions?

Ever do any tenkara fishing? Sounds like a possible option for you.

Look into the TFO rods. I have the 5' "half weight" rod, paired with a BVK 0 reel and a 1 WFF line. For a very small rod it has a pretty big backbone that you can feel all the way through the grip. It does take some time learning to cast such a small rod, and this one is like wet spaghetti. Makes a good time with small fish and a challenge if you hook into some bigger ones. Really fun pan fish rod. I have landed some 14-16" Brookies on it. I'll find some pics.

image.jpg I caught this Big Brown in July on an Orange Stimulator on my 4wt Helios Ion. 18.5", a pretty big fish for this area on the Chuaga River.

Oh yeah! Love them little blue line streams! I built up a 6'3" Sage SLT 3 weight blank years back... Awesome little rod for the brookies.

Another good option is a small fiberglass rod. I've heard great things about the Cabelas line... And they are pretty cheap too, ~100 bucks for the 5'9" 3 weight.

    Definitely..

I actually started searching and found this - http://thefiberglassmanifesto.blogspot.com/2010/06/eagle-claw-featherlight-series.html

For 25$ shipped via Amazon Prime, Im gonna give it a go. All the reviews Ive read say nothing but good things about it. If I hate it, Im not out a ton of money.

I have reels with WF 3w, WF 4w, and WF 5w line on them. Im sure one of them will match well to the rod.

Some of the blue lines we fish are no more than 4ft wide and casting isnt even necessary. I think this outfit will work out perfect for those types of stream.

My "go to" rod right now is a 7'6" 4wt Cabelas CGR. I am just now getting into glass, and I love it. The CGR is a very nice rod.

I pulled the trigger on the Eagle Claw Featherlight and got a chance to fish it today. Fun little rod. I matched it to a cheapy Cabelas disk drag reel and Orvis Clearwater WF 4w line. Its the first 'glass rod Ive ever used and it definitely took some getting used to. The tip of it is like a wet noodle. But after messing with it for a bit, I really like it and its perfect for hiking into those tight brushy spots.

Sooooo to help ease my girlfriends frustration of learning how to cast on the water, I ordered a practicaster today. Apparently there are people that line it with a 4wt line and it casts rather well. Some have spoke about using it to catch fish...I think I have found my mountain stream light weight rod :). Can't wait for it to come in.
