OK so I am an Active Duty Supply SGT that works for the Army Reserves. I just got moved to Alabama. The unit has this 58 year Soldier that is awesome. She had this job that was her life. We both were up in Kentucky getting a unit ready to go over to Afghanistan and I asked her how here job was going and she tells me that she got fired. I am not going to go into a lot of detail because this is a public forum. I saw a tear on her face as she is telling me what happened. She tried to hide it but I saw. Well she was went to Mississippi to drug test another group. She was driving he own 2001 Corolla. Her car breaks down. She sat along the road for 5 hours waiting for someone in the unit to pick her up.

I have the supper charged Tacoma with the tow package so I am always up to tow something so I offer to go get her car. Its eight hours round trip and people tell me things for some stupid reason. So her life story is that she had an abusive father so of course she marries an abuse husband who she later divorces and her family then dis owns her. She lives in this shitty little trailer with a dog and four cats. I like her because she is a great Soldier and more importantly an animal lover. She has six feral cats outside that she feeds. She tells me on the drive that she thought about ending her life. "I thought about ending it all". She tells me she decided not to because "its the cowards way out" and "my son would not like it" and "who would take care of my animals". I am thinking shit, shit, shit. She has no friends really just this dog and cats. Its hard to get a new job when you do not have a way to get around. I need helping fixing this thing. Below is the details on her car.

    2001 Toyota Corolla

Runs real real rough no power

    OBD port show codes
    P0171
    P0301
    P0125
    P0420
    P0301
    P0420

Lets not focus on those now please see below.

I get a compression tool from Vatozone and Cylinder 2-4 read around 145. Cylinder 1 nothing. So I do a "wet test on Cylinder 1. I pour in a table spoon of oil into cylinder 1 and make a test and still the needle on the gauge does not move. So I think something is wrong with the top end (head/valves).

What is my next move? I need to get this fixed. I want to correct a small wrong in this fucked up world we live all live in. Please help.

First, let say thank you for your service. Mike92y, I have been kicked around this old world for more years than I would care to admit. Seven of those years I was a Paramedic. The balance I have been a traveling salesman. All that means is, I have seen, at least a good portion, of the underbelly of the human condition. The underbelly simply isn't very pretty. Never the less, it's still there. The reason I answered your post is because I have been confronted by this type of situation more than would be considered to be my fair share.
Your friend seems to have been dealt a very bad hand by whoever deals our hands in life. Also, she seems to be a decent human being. Given her suicidal leaning, the sad fact of the matter is that for some people, this world will never be right, regardless of what anyone does to help her. Having said this, just don't overlook professional psychiatric help, even if you have to get help from the Sheriff to force her into treatment. Also, her animals seem to be a big supportive factor in her life. Don't forget about them, or she will have an even harder road to recovery. Just do your best. These types of things have a way of working themselves out. Additionally, you're a damn good man, mike92y.

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
Everything will be ok. Time for a trailer revamp.

I think the whole head needs to come off and get rebuilt. I think this might be beyond what I can do but I will try.

Before ripping it all apart, get an inspection camera in there and check the damage. Make sure that you can find the piston (and that it looks normal). Make sure that the piston moves when you crank the engine (by hand or wrench). Make sure that the cylinder isn't toasted. If that all looks good, then head comes off, worst case, new head. If it looks toasted down below, best bet is probably a used engine.

I am to take valve cover off this weekend and go from there. Maybe I can free the valve. Thanks for the help.
