You would be right that the Tacoma is better resale wise. However, the trade in loss isn't that bad on an F150. Maybe 5% worse year over year.

Let me clear something up. I'm not saying the F150 is a better truck than the Tacoma. Yes, it's more capable and for most people it's probably the better buy, but it's also bigger and not nearly as nimble as a Tacoma. The Tacoma has inherent traits that no fancy engines or options packages can compete with. Heck, that's why I own one for myself.

Shoot...I am self employed...but I still have to pay for it.
I am seeing 5.0's for nearly the same. What I would choose...don't trust turbos over the long haul...I run my vehicles up over 200-300K miles. Don't really care about resale value, as they aren't worth much after I am done with them.

Me personally I am not interested in the crew. I would go with a regular cab, but we have to haul people occasionally, that and nice to have a place to stash gear.

Since the Tacoma DCLB is close in size to the F150 Super Cab...why I compare those two configurations. Wheelbase Toyota 140/Ford 145, track Toyota 63/Ford 67...rear seat leg room.Toyota 32/ Ford 33. (give or take a 1/2 inch)

Ah, you had a bad Ecoboost. That makes sense. Out of the trucks we have had at work only one went sideways on us. When it went though it kept on going bad until we got rid of it.

What % of truck buyers keep their trucks forever? I would venture to say 20% or fewer. Most individuals replace cars every 6 years or 72 months.

This would indicate that a more rapid depreciation is actually an added cost of purchase right?

    http://www.thefiscaltimes.com/2015/07/29/Here-s-Why-Americans-Are-Keeping-Their-Cars-Longer-Ever

For those saying F150 is a better value aren't looking at the whole picture. That buying by the point analogy has been the best I've seen yet.

Nope. I have a friend who has one. I've been in it and have driven it...hundreds of hours. I would not own it.

A 6 year old Tacoma would go for about 15K around here. It's so low due to the frame issues and we are in a cold climate. We just sold a 6 year old XLT 5.4L at work for 12K. Not much difference there, not enough to flip the situation around anyways.

I think there is a misconception that after 5-7 years an F150 is worth a few K. It's not. Most guys can get 15-20K easily for trucks that age if they are in good shape. Tacoma's get maybe another 2-3K more. That's it. It's not a huge gap like it might of been ten or twenty years ago.

Baby them with synthetic oil and good fuel. Then they last. Use cheap gas or run extended oil changes and that's when I've seen the Ecoboost struggle. You have to treat it like a performance engine.

I keep mine over 10...pushing 15 years with my Tacoma. I do have other vehicles, but the Tacoma is my main vehicle.

Most people get bored, or don't take care of their vehicles...or finally pay it off....or a combination of all three of those, then buy something new.

I pay cash, take care of it...then hold on to it for a long time. Do realize I am in the very low minority of vehicle owners though.

No worries. You can wait a few years for Toyota to put the same thing in their trucks and call it "proven".

Just bugging you. Like I said I think both trucks have their place.

    We are good

And I agree. The Tacoma is a real nice truck. The F150 is also a real nice truck.

I didn't see an FX4 package for the new F-150s. All I see is Xl, XLT, Lariat, King Ranch and Platnium.

I've got a close friend who jumped from GM to Ford, hated his eco boost, it was always broke and back at the dealer. He traded it in for a new GM, and couldn't be happier. Couple guys on one of my forums did the same, same result. Overall general consensus is the truck sucks monkey nuts.

I gave this problem today in Algebra 2:

Examle 5: The management at Hertz Rent-a-car has decided to allocate 1.5 million dollars to buy a fleet of Toyota vehicles to rent to its customers. They will be buying Carollas, Avalons, and Tacomas. Carollas cost $12,000 each. Avalons costs $18,000 each. The Tacoma cost $24,000 each. If Hertz purchases twice as many Carollas as Avalons and the total number of cars purchased is 100, determine how many cars of each type will be purchased.

    :notsure:

Not my experience with them, and I actually have them around work everyday unlike a "friend".

I wouldn't put a Chevy product as the top end of anything. Chevy is like Vanilla ice cream. It sucks but it never changes so people keep buying it.

You are correct, sort of. The FX4 is a package now. Before it was a trim level. So now you can get what made an FX4 an FX4 (skids, locker, and different ratios... OH AND STICKER) on any trim level.

but see, your comment is nothing but an opinion, just as mine is!
I'm not going to get into the whole debate on what's "better", because that's subjective. But based off reviews from people I know who own the truck in question, not the manufacturer, but the model, they have hated the eco-boost.

I'm not brand biased, hence why I am here trying to gain knowledge on owning my first Tacoma, not my first Toyota. I've owned 8 vehicles total. Most have been GM, and I wouldn't own the new Silverado, I'd buy a Tundra. I do like the Sierra Denali though.
