Leaking Supercharger?

Hey guys, it looks like i have a leak coming from the front of my TRD supercharger. Any expirience on this situation? How much of a deal is it? I still have 2k left on my warranty but i feel the dealership will weasle out since i installed a cold air intake a couple months ago. Just curious, but if toyota wants a ton of money and doesnt cover it under warranty, i may just take it out of the truck and sent it to steigmeyer for a rebuild and some other things. Unit has about 51k on it. Any opinions?

Looks like the seal on the input shaft might be leaking. You might want to try and clean it off and see if it comes back (just to rule out if it's engine oil that got on it during an oil change). How long has it been there?

 

Its been there for about 2 - 3 months and looks like it has slowly grown. I just took it in to toyota and they put a dye in my engine oil to see if that is coming from somewhere. I think its the input shaft as well, but i forgot to say they when i was talking to toyota. Ill be back in about 2 weeks for a follow up.

 

Bet is on the seal. I hope it isn't though.

I thougt it was the snout seal too from initial inspection. Any hard prooven way to determine that? Toyota said they couldnt find anything wrong. But i have about 2,500 miles left on my warranty.

They cleaned the crud off and told me to come back after a few hundred miles or so. I have checked it sense and have not seen any come back? So either it was something else or its out of snout oil. I know it wasnt checked because it has tamper proof paint mark on the plug still. Ill be going back in next week just before the the 60k mark.

 

Prob leaking from the snout seal for a little bit but stopped?

 

Haha i guess. I have a feeling im going to have to push to get the local Toyota to actually check it.

 

If you still have your stock intake, throw that back on and take it in to them or a different dealer and have them look into it seriously.

I would highly recommend you throw it back on, go to a different dealer and have them look into it. Then you have 100% power behind you with a 'voided' warranty

 

Just an update. I am at the end of my warranty, well actually i had 300 miles left, and i installed the urd supergrip pulley. Once i pulled the pully off, behind it on the supercharger snout was clean and dry as a bone. So the mystery continues, but it was not the charger snout.

 

I've used ZZP for more than 10 years. Never had a complaint with their service.

Yeah the install was about 1/2 hour minus the extra time it took me to get my skid plate off. The bolts were so rusty one wouldn't come off even with oil, so it broke. The pulley is better but its not like a throw you back difference. I can feel a difference, but barely. Mostly I notice that the engine is more responsive throughout normal driving midrange, rather than an all out performance gain. Also it looks sweet. I say its worth the $100.
