Shovel, Axe and whatever else you want bed brackets!

Shovel, Hi Lift, Axe,
and pretty much whatever else you want bed track brackets.



Items needed.
7in flat stock. (x2 per object being held).
Bolts washers and nylocks. For the washers I recommend a heavier duty type just incase of over torqueing the bolts. (x4 per object).
Quick Fist's (x2 per object).
*For Hi Lift x2 wing nuts and x2 washers will be necessary.

Tools needed.
Very small wrench to fit inside of track to hold bolts. 7/16 wrench fits perfectly and you can get it out easy as well.
Ratchet (recommend).
Scribes (HIGHLY recommend).
Hands (they may be necessary for this project).

Measurements
On the flat stock these are just the measurements I did. They have a little slack on the bottom of the Quick Fists so you wont catch your fingers on the metal. The tops sit about flush with the top of the bed not the track itself. Also for the Hi Lift it is based on mine which may not be the same as yours. (refer to pictures for actual measurements)





Installation
Quite simple really, in the notches where the tie down brackets lock into place, put a bolt with washer on the inside of the track. A piece of flat stock on the outside. With a scribe place a small wrench inside the track itself and line it up on the bolt and tighten that flat stock up! Quick Fists placed on the bottom and tighten them up!

*For the Hi lift just use wing nuts instead of Quick Fists, but Quick Fists could also work. What I did was put the bottom of the Hi Lift on the wheel well and lifted the other end up just a bit to make it flat and pretty!

Put lightweight tie down loops like this under the nut and washer for double duty.

yeah they should have like 48in flat stock I know at ace and true value they would but most should!

I used a drill press with titanium bits. Or just old ones you don't care about. Use a drilling oil or lube if bits start smoking wear goggles. Also scribes look like dental tools also called pick and hook sets

I used them once years ago and couldn't remember the name took me forever to find them!!

 

Why the flat bottom shovel and not a point shovel? A point shovel is much better to move dirt and rock...

I just got a sheet metal bending brake from HF yesterday, now I can do decent bends for fabrication instead of a hammer and anvil...

Had the shovel on hand and I use it more for snow. I agree spade makes more sense for all around 4x4!

 

Yea, I keep one of the flat bottoms in the shop for snow, sand, landscaping, moving chips and such.

But I like your bracket designs. Now with a cap, no more need for brackets for me! I am about to pull the brackets for the high lift.

Thanks! It was easy and cheap! I figured out I can even fit a fishing pole into it perfectly with the pole broken down or tailgate down.

 

Most hardware stores have predrilled or slotted flat stock in 5 ft lengths. I'm working on a similar setup using that.

 

Trying to decide which shovel to mount on my rack? Got the High Lift mounted and the quick fists for the other side but I wan't more compact shovel.

Here's my rig using predrilled metal bar from Lowe's. I painted them using spray on bedliner from a rattle can.Still have some tweaks to do on it but this a start.

 

Nice! ! I like it!

 

Sprayed the shovel with Speedliner. "Shouldn't" rust or scratch since it is essentially Rhino Liner with a different texture.
