No, because this is Toyota and the 2016 didn't get cheaper. They made the choices they did to keep profits up, like all companies do.

Stick with Toyota, they will have cd players for at least ten more years. I bought a Camry that had a cassette player and a cd player in it and this was five after everyone had stop putting cassette players in their vehicles.

Seems to me that most of the VW fan's like shiny new things and get bored quick...so they tend to turn them in before they put any extended mileage on them. Every VW owner that I know has had major problems with them, and now drive Toyotas and Hondas.

VW's sure a pleasing to look at though. I won't own another one...I almost took the Jetta out into the desert and lit on fire. We fixed it one last time, and bought a Honda Civic, which I do believe the Ex-wife still has...and that was well over 10 years ago.

Bollocks. One of my buds sold his 10 year old taco for $18,500. The resale difference is even more the older the truck is. I've seen a guzillion beat-to-shit gen1 tacos for $12K with a ton of miles, whereas an F150 that's 15 years old is worth...oh I don't know, a 12 pack and letting them take a crack at your sister. Tacoma is the only vehicle I've seen consistently sell over blue book which is already sky high. If a gen1 taco or toyota pickup is in good shape or has low miles, guys will list it for 2000-5000 over blue book...and get that much.

Why would I buy a tacoma? Because a stock tacoma OR is head, shoulders, torso, and tiny asian dong ahead of a stock f150 for offroading. The ONLY thing I EVER tow is an excavator, which I would NEVER tow with a tacoma...or an F150. The heaviest thing that's ever in the bed is my massive brass balls and the close second is a 4wheeler. F150 being bigger is a downside for me. For my usage profile, there is literally nothing better about an F150 which costs ~$14,000 more when all is said and done.

I looked all around for almost a year, including at some sports cars, and decided on the Toyota. I tried waiting for the '16, but ran out of time and needed wheels. I got a great deal on my '15 DCSB Sport. I had a Gen 1 DCSB Taco and loved it, but like this one more. I knew I would never regret having the pickup and the platform is crazy flexible. I can take it anywhere, at anytime. It's a personal choice, of course, but even if I buy something else down the line - I will have my Tacoma. As for the Gen 3, it will be different, but still family. Last thought on this: Easier to fight zombies in a Tacoma than a jetta.

My vehicles aren't worth much, when I am done with them...

I don't buy trucks solely for their off-road prowl-ness. Shoot...want a 4 wheeled cage for off road that is ready to go off the show room floor by a SideXSide...<<<< that will smoke a Tacoma off road.

I do a plethora of back country exploring via other means...you can have the best built up Tacoma...it won't even come close to what a stock dirt bike can do. I am looking to buy a Four Wheel Camper, not sure how the Tacoma guys are getting around the low payload. With the camper, 2 people, and a full tank of water...the Tacoma is maxed out. F150 gives me some wiggle room.

I no longer work construction...so no having to tow excavators any more for me...only toys. ;) :D I dunno, F150 is looking good to me.

You seem angry that people are looking at alternatives. I like Tacomas, great trucks...not sure if they are fitting the bill for me anymore.

I moded 1999 Taco so much it had turned to Land Cruiser
So you don't tow, you dont carry things in bed, why buy pickup than ?

Gen1 case is different. Resale value is so high because Toyota crushed half of them, whats left is in big demand because people want compact truck... which Toyota thinks is not needed (irony)

I have to agree with the quote above. In the area of the world I live in, 1st Gen trucks in good shape demand a high premium (actually ridiculous premium). The 2nd Gens, while they retain good value, don't sell as high as a 1st gen of similar age and mileage.

Gaaaad...if only I could buy a brand new 1st gen. I wouldn't even be considering leaving Toyota and buying a fullsize, like I am now.

Agreed, I would love a same sized but modernized (engine, transmission, interior) 1st gen.

First off mr ignorant, i said i like the chevies looking square like the OBS. NOT ALL TRUCKS. my taco has curves and i like them. Chevy has curves on the colorado and i hate them. So stop assuming shit and use the old addage your mother never taught you: if you dont have anything nice to say dont say anything at all.

Mr. Ignorant? I'm ignorant because you're inconsistent in your taste? In what world is that logical or make any sense. Then you make assumptions after accusing me of do the same. What hypocritical little ingrate.

I'm looking hard at the ram 1500 eco diesel. With the price of a loaded Tacoma hitting $39k and I can get a fully loaded 1500 with a power rear window, heated-cooled front seats and 22-29 true mpg.....I know reliability comes into play but it's been out for two years and no major glitches besides airbags. But even Toyota has airbag issues. I still have my 05 tundra work truck with 6 speed manual. So I still have a love for Toyota but damn that price point is too strong.

Love them '05 Tundra Access Cabs. 218 inches long, 128 inch wheelbase, 75 inches wide, 10.5 inches stock ground clearance.

They should bring the VW poptop Kombi back, that was a sweet little offroad camper. Put chains on it and it would go anywhere.
