Dealer registered my Taco as a "Commercial" vehicle... Why?

Huh? Flag only came down where the decision was left to politicians. We still wash our cars, water our lawns, stand in the shower for hours, don't issue drivers license's to illegal aliens, attend church on Sunday's - live the American dream, and register our trucks any way we want. LOL (yeah redneck)

This was directed at the poster from SC.

Someone takes jabs at my state, I'll take a jab at yours too. To say that SC is normal and CA is not is ridiculous. About the reddest and bluest states in the country. What is normal?

For the record, my truck is clean and properly registered, lawn green, showers last 10 minutes or more, in laws go to church on Sunday, and I'm living the dream in the suburbs. Those "illegal immigrants" can drive anywhere they want, including your state.

Moral is, don't hate it till you've lived it.

Being registered as a commercial vehicle is pretty handy. I part in yellow (loading) zones all the time in San Francisco without getting tickets.

I think there is sequence in the license plate number that denotes it as a commercial vehicle.

The sequence goes something like 6 numbers and 1 letter. What about pickup trucks with vanity plates?
Do you park in yellow zones during business hours?

Business hours. I have done it for years. If that's not legal I would have gotten a ticket already because of how fast SF meter maids responds.

Interesting. I always thought it was for active loading and unloading only. Good to know, though.
I would personally avoid it because I don't like having large trucks loading and unloading next to me.

The Commercial reg is one thing, but what's killing me is the ~$150 "overweight fee." Dread paying it on top of regular CA reg every year. Did not fathom a Tacoma 4x2 prerunner would warrant this fee. A full-size Ford or Chevy, yes, but a Tacoma?

IN and IL - so long as you're under 11,000 you pay and play like a truck.

Both states have the most hideous truck tags I've ever seen (IN 7,000lb Truck and IL B-Truck)

Except for Chicago (which sucks) which has truck bans on Lake Shore Drive (but my 1GR 4Runner was perfectly acceptable), and no trucks in the interstate express lanes (I've seen Indiana pickup people say they can skirt this by putting specialty plates on their pickups, but never tried it myself)

In IN you could tag a car with (pricier, but not terribly) 11,000 truck plates to skirt emissions up till a few years ago.
