Is there an option sticker on these Tacoma's that give the gear ratio like GM vehicle's do if you know the RPO code?
    Mine is a 98
    Thank you

There is a code on your door sticker. Then look at the sticky at the top of the page to see what ratio ya got.

Well I'm not privy to the process but I do know u can jack up the rear and turn the tire by hand and count the revolutions of the drive shaft. But idk anything about that other than its a way to figure out your ratio. Hopefully someone else will chime in with the true knowhow of this method...

Put a chalk mark on your driveshaft and your tire. How many revolutions of the driveshaft does it take to make one revolution of the tire?

More info about your truck? v6 or i4? Manual or auto trans? Reg cab, x-cad or d-cab?

On the drivers door jam sticker what is written next to AT/M

VIN does not show axle code or transmission. Not sure how that rumor ever started.

I've attached an image of my door sticker. It shows my axle as B04A (4.56 gears)

I think you can look up where it says RZN171...... I believe your gear ratio is tied to that code as well.
I've never seen one with a ? before.

Hmmm.... mystery gears. 4 revs of the driveshaft for a single, full rev of the tire gives you a 4:1 ratio. A common gear set for Tacomas was 3.90:1. Also 4.10:1 was common with the TRD v6s. If you get 4.5 revs of the shaft, probably 4.56:1 ratio, a common one with the 2.7L/5-speed combo. Some have also reported having 3.53:1 ratio with the 2.7L.

The only other way to know for sure is to pull the third and count the teeth. My guess is that you don't want to know that badly.

From doing a little research it looks like 97-99 trucks with the 2.7L 5 speed came from the factory with 3.91 gears.

I'm pretty sure 4.56 gears only came in 2.7L automatics.
