I'm just going to give up trying to make my point since you have ate way too much of the Toyota's do everything better cereal.

No. They don't do everything better. But...my Toyota's have never let me down. Can't say the same for my Chevy's. I'm not some random 22 year old with his first truck.

Carry on. I'm only here to make fun of Jon, Eric, and Monte (when he makes an appearance). Occasionally I offer marginally helpful tid-bits of information. But you're not going to get much love around here agreeing with you getting an old chevy.

I need some of your kool-aid so I can give it to the guys in my off road club. Maybe they'll sell their 3/4 and 1 ton trucks to buy a Tundra  To each his own I guess.

Chris, I meant no hard feelings. I speak my mind with minimal filter.
But I'm not trying to get your NC boys to trade from a one ton to a half ton. I have my tundra...for a purpose. I have my taco...for a purpose. And they both serve their purpose exceedingly well. Carry on.

None taken, was sorta hoping with all the extra bs in here there would be an update on the build. Like maybe Job won the lotto and the truck will be done before the next election.

Not opposed to running a 1st gen Tundra. I'll have to keep my eyes and options open. Honestly, I think it'll boil down to sucking it up, buckling down and focusing on getting this POS driveable ASAP. Despite these withdrawls. :anonymous: Just seemed more likely that it could happen sooner if I came upon one with *minor* (in the context of the situation) damage that I could pick up for cheap and get it running without too much (ha) trouble.

Worked on my brother's Ford ExploDer most of the day, so I didn't get to finish the upper firewall just yet. But the Woodward steering components showed up today and I managed to get most of it together. For the sake of uniformity/parts commonality, both ends are identical. One end of the ujoints fits the 17.5mm 36-spline Toyota pattern which is on both the steering box and the OEM steering column assembly. The OEM steering column still maintains the ability to collapse if necessary. The other end of the ujoints is a Woodward specific .750" x 20-spline pattern to match the weld-in stubs for the centermost portion of the steering shaft (23"x .750"OD x .120" wall DOM)

Checking fitment and proper phasing before fully welding one end.

Stoopid question, but will I even need a heim/support bearing? Or is that just for extreme angles? If I do in fact need one, should I mount it near the proximal or distal end?

Only need a support bearing when you have 3 or more joints. There is a collapsing section to that right?

    Okay, cool.

Yeah, the OEM steering shaft assembly between the firewall and steering wheel is a collapsible hex style tube.

Preferably gonna look for something that will be primarily a DD since I don't want to own 3 vehicles at this point in my life haha. The big trucks get expensive, so those are probably out unless I can find a damn good deal from salvage/auction. I just don't know what sites are out there and what the good ones are.

That's gonna be a hard medium to find. A second gen tundra may be the way to go, or keep your DD and invest in a 80s-90s f250. But I get not wanting three vehicles lol

A simple half ton truck of any make will suffice... You don't need a 2500.... And you don't want a midsized truck either. Half ton... ONCE THE TRUCK IS SERIOUSLY A MONTH FROM COMPLETION.

Yup, but I don't mind a gas guzzler, as long as I can find it cheap.

    Thanks! :anonymous:

No tailgate, the tire carrier sticks out past where a tailgate would've been placed.

    The most likely scenario.

I pull my truck with a crew cab short bed silverado with a 6" lift and 35's. It does alright but if I hit any kind of grade it can be hard to maintain the speed limit without tach'ing like 3500-4k. Not to mention I get like 9 mpg while towing. It's currently for sale and I'll be in the market for a diesel.
