About 10 years ago, I was trying to fix the steering column in my '86 because it was making a crazy grinding/squeaking noise when I turned. It eventually started getting stuck at random points and I had to push really hard to get it turned (not a good situation). I removed the steering column and out fell a spent 30-06 casing! I couldn't believe what I was seeing. It must have got in there from some previous owner, but I was completely baffled at that one!

Thanks for all the replies and comedy.
    Got it fixed.

Let's just say I got really pissed off and took my anger out on the steering wheel. My knuckles and the steering wheel didn't quite work right the next day .

Turns out I knocked the whole column off the two bolts that hold the column up against the lower section of the dash/firewall. All is better now, in life... And the truck

I just had the same thing happen on my 2008, and steering column just sort of dropped in my lap. I was honking at some tool, but not angry or jerking the steering column. Weirdest damn thing. Going to the dealer to see what's up, and if they will warranty this silliness.

Interesting. Well, I'll look at my manual and try to pop off the plastics underneath the column, see if I can get it lined up. The dealer was less that interested in talking to me about this. I'll give it a shot.

HEY! Thank you for the encouragement, folks. I came home, took off the plastic housing around the steering column, and got the piece back in place, and seated the column back in place above the washers it floats on (sorry for the shit description), and the whole damn thing is conveniently reassembled in under 30 minutes with a Phillips screwdriver!

    Whoohoo!

sorry, didn't take any pics. ;p

Don’t assume anything on TW........remember this is the place where people drain there transmission fluid assuming it’s the oil.

So this is where the anger management section of TW hangs out.
