I would go back and talk to the manager. I would be curious to see how they handle that one.

    Did you check oil level?
If they drained the tranny and filled the oil, you've got 11qts in the engine.

I will definitely be doing this tomorrow.

The dipstick does show quite a bit higher than the 2 dots where it's supposed to be. I would say 2-3 inches maybe? Doesn't seem like 5.5 quarts worth of excess though.

So sorry to hear OP!Midas is a joke/accident waiting to happen!Have heard plenty of horror stories in my lifetime about Midas and it happened to my mom several yrs ago with her 1991 Ford Thunder. Was unaware she had her shocks/struts done there until i drove her car one day and realized they never did the job after i ended up doing a inspection myself. It all ended up being resolved and was done for free after being reported to Midas Corporate!Felt so bad for my mom but loved how she tore them a new you know what!Good luck in finding a piece of mind with getting your Tacoma resolved!

2-3 *inches*? That is very VERY massively overfilled. Keep in mind that the space above the oil pan is wider than the oil pan itself, so it can take a larger volume for the level to rise the same distance on the dipstick.

Do not drive it until you get BOTH of those levels within spec. You could blow your engine (if its that much too high) or your transmission (who knows how low it could be).

At this point, I'd be contacting the manager of that Midas location. I would explain my concerns in a very demanding, yet respectful way. I WOULD NOT for the life of me drive that truck anywhere till the levels are confirmed to be within spec. For starters, I'd drain all of the oil out and refill it myself. Least you'd know that's taken care of and out of the question. I'd then talk to Midas about the transmission and refunding for the oil that you had to change to make up for your time. Corporate should take care of you if the manager isn't willing to settle on anything. Don't settle for what THEY want, make them pay for their mistakes!

contact them immediately about this situation

if there is no fluid on the transmission dipstick, contact them immediately.... tell them the engine oil was overfilled and you have no transfuild or very little. do not drive it, force them to tow it back to the shop on a FLATBED. this will prevent any further damage to the transmission. make sure you get it all documented in case you have a failure down the line, engine or transmission.

It's a sealed transmission, so there isn't a dipstick to my knowledge.

I would email the manager with a description of the events and what you found, followed by a call to him. I would want everything documented, not just "he said xxx on the phone...". As others said, don't drive it. Have them tow it back to the shop. If it were me I wouldn't want them to touch it again but I doubt they will pay for the dealer to do it. I would stand right outside the bay, watching everything they do. I would also take pictures - of the overfilled oil (dipstick), the tranny (which you already did), etc...

I'm big on documenting everything. It may save your ass in the future should something go wrong.

i have a manual transmission... i completely forgot about the no dipstick feature.

I wouldn't chance driving that anywhere. have midas tow it to their shop or to the dealer.

Ended up getting the truck to toyota and they verified exactly what I was thinking. Ended up adding 3 quarts of transmission fluid and found about 5 extra quarts of engine oil in it.

Took the bill to midas and they are going to comp it. Oh, and while I'm picking up a check, they're going to put my tire back on the right way.

Silver lining - essentially got a free trans flush, so I got that going for me.

Holy incompetence! Stories like this scare the crap out of me... and totally justify my desire to do things like oil changes myself, even when the service is "free" from the dealer or whatever. So many of those shops can screw up just about anything...

Exactly - should've just had them do the tire and then get my own oil/filter.
