I couldn't help but notice that the tail lights/brake lights in all of these recently released videos of the 2016 Tacoma are incandescent bulbs and not LEDs like the 2009-2015 models. While not a big deal to most, I look at it as a downgrade. What do you think?

I thought they were LEDs.. hmm.. But if so it definitely is a downgrade, though one with a cheap alternative..

I thought they were LED, just a different style than the 2nd. Gen.

More like the LED's on the new Fords if that makes any sense.

They are bulbs in the 2016, not LED.

    Thanks for the clarification Jeff,

Weird, another step back for the Tacoma, I liked the LEDs on the 2 gens...

The cheap, old tundra looking/Mitsubishi raider lights on the 3rd gen are worse.

If it's that big of a deal, I'm sure there will be LED bulbs to fit these things on the aftermarket.

Yes there are, I will be going to www.vleds.com to upgrade all of my bulbs to LED when I get the 2016 sometime in November, installed them on my 2014 Rogue and was very impressed.

Not all Tacomas from '09 to '15 were LEDs. My '13 came with encandescents, which I thought was rather odd, since I'd seen the late models trucks with LEDs.

    All 05-08's had incandescent bulbs.
    All 09-11's had LED's.
Some 12-15's had incandescent bulbs and some had LED's, depending on options.

    All 16's are incandescent bulbs.

My '13 base has incandescents. Just like my '04 Highlander.

I had one of the taillight bulbs in the Highlander fail last year, right at the 10 year mark and almost 100k. Toyota wouldn't replace it under any type of extended warranty, and assured me there were no recalls or TSBs outstanding.

    Now please pass the cheese.

Here's an interesting piece of information I just came across. If you fast forward this video to 7:17 in, you'll see the tail light demonstration. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8aesr9D8V6I The tail lights in this video are instant-off, indicating that they are LED. However, in all of the testing videos in Washington that were recently released, the lights have about a 1/10th of a second delay to turn off, indicating incandescent. Very strange.

yeah. they now look like everyone elses tails, which are shit.

I agree, LED's are the way to go. NHTSA has approved a ton of LED lights for
every corner, no reason now in 2016 to cheap out and use incans any longer

NO, the tail lights in the video fade off just like incandescent.

It may look like it because the gain is so low in that high light field
