Looking for opinions and advice on upgrading my laptop.

    Lenovo V570 model 1066 ARU

My plan is to upgrade my Hard-drive, processor, and ram.

For the Hard-drive I am looking for 500gb SSD drives.

For the processor I want upgrade to at least a quad-core i7.

For the ram I would like to max out my ram capabilities.

My main use of this computer is for school. I have to run CAD programs such as Creo3.0(parametric and simulate) and SolidWork and run CFD programs such as Star CCM+.

    My budget is around $600.

Either buy a new laptop or wait til black Friday / cyber Monday to order the parts for it. For some reason the comparable part on a desk top is more expensive for a laptop. SSD's used to be $1 per gig, now I think I see them for 40 cents per gig .. maybe lower. I'm sure you can get an even stellar deal on one at black Friday. You didn't mention ram either which is just as important as the processor when it comes to CAD.

One can never have too many light bars.
How many ram slots do you have? Anything over 16 GB is probably overkill unless you're a hardcore gamer or do alot of video editing. My XPS has 12GB and it's fast as shit.

Or build a nice PC and spend the money now and then you dont have to upgrade it for a while and you can do much more on it but I have a pretty decent home built pc and a pretty decent laptop both can handle solidworks and CSGO no problem only time my pc has issues is when I have to do things like render or export videos with premiere pro

I'll probably get flamed for saying something wrong here but I don't think you'll find a laptop with a 500 gb solid state drive. Maybe one with a hybrid drive in it which would still fit the bill for you. I can say this, most of our desktops at our facility that run Autocad, proces control software and all of their day to day software only have 500 gb SATA drives in them with 4 gigs of RAM and an i3 dual core processor. They all run like workhorses and never miss a beat.

yeah a hybrid isnt too bad of an idea honestly my laptop has one. and correct me if im wrong but the normal gpu's cpu's etc for gaming or whatever are not as good as the ones you don't hear about but that because they are expensive and only meant to do things like solidworks etc things like the nvidia quadro's are better than like a gtx or titan?

I was just in the market for a new laptop, although for a slightly different goal. I wanted something powerful, light and up to date, not something I would want to upgrade in a year. I ended up going for the HP Spectre X360 with 5th gen i7, 8gb ram and 256gb SSD, which is more than your posted price range but is fairly close, performance wise, to what you are looking for.

Its going to be tough to max out ram, get an SSD and powerful enough processor for what you are doing without compromising a little. Lenovo does have good deals going on right now for a lot of their laptops. If you are willing to give up the 500 gb SSD and stay at a more traditional size notebook here is this one right at your price range. Personally I think 8gb of ram with the i7 will be enough as long as you aren't running all of those programs at once. If you are doing that though you are probably going to struggle to find a laptop good enough IMO

also since you are a student don't forget that there are student discounts. lenovo's are under their deals tab.
