Loaded the taco down in the cab and bed and then filled a trailer up with Lawn equipment and hauled it from right outside of Nashville, Tn to Key Largo, FL. 1005 miles each way. Did it to move my best friend and his family down there, I vowed never to drive there again. Will only fly from now on. lmao

Not in a tacoma, but the longest single drive I have ever done was from Pittsfield,Ma to Flamingo campground on the southernmost tip of the Florida everglades. 1,510 miles nonstop, only gas and bathroom breaks. Driving was split between 3 of us. It was an awesome trip, and I would do it again in a heartbeat. I actually enjoy the open road and much prefer that to flying.

It wasn't the drive that was bad, it was what happened. There were 5 trucks total, one 30ft penske, a 20ft uhaul, and 3 normal trucks. All 5 had trailers behind them (2 of the trailers containing lifted jeeps and one trailer being a 25ft pontoon. Then the big penske broke down in Atlanta and we had to wait for a Penske maintenance guy for 3 hrs to come fix it, then the smallest truck we had pulling a trailer broke down in northern FL so we had to trade it out for one of the jeeps on the trailer and pull a small trailer the rest of the way with a lifted jeep. All this and the only stops we made were bathroom/gas and to sleep for 4 hours at a rest stop during which I was throwing up in the bathroom (and out the passenger side of my truck once we continued driving)from food poisoning. The trip took us like 30-35 hours total.

We just had the worst luck.

that sounds terrible. Yes, I like my trips "free driving", not towing, hauling etc. And of all the places to breakdown, atlanta!!! Yikes

And at like 9pm. We pulled all of the guns out of his dad's backseat and each had one within arms reach. But yea, I'm sure it would've been much more enjoyable had it just been a drive and not moving a huge ass house worth of shit. lol

I've taken mine from Western MA to Charlotte and back a few days later. Stopped only for gas/food. Somewhere around 800 miles one way. Actually got 23 MPG one of those tanks.

hey. long time no talk. I've been to Rock hill,SC years ago. Its 20 mins from Charlotte. The area looks strikingly similiar to the berkshires. Rolling green mountains etc. Minus the shitty winter though.

I noticed the same thing. I'll take a harsh winter over the extra heat they get, though.

In 2015, around this time of year, a friend of mine and I logged 7,284 miles in my '08 Tacoma. We drove from Fayetteville, NC to N. California, down the coast and then back again. We were out almost six weeks, and with the exception of 4 nights, we tent camped at state and national parks along the way. The 4 nights at hotels were mainly to do laundry and straighten out our backs :) We wanted to stay off interstates and experience the older cross-country routes. We caught US Route 50 near St. Louis and after a week or so of zig-zagging through Colorado and Utah, we picked it back up in Nevada and took it to its end in Sacramento. The NV section was beautiful, but desolate. I can see why it's called the "Loneliest Road in America".

We then turned northward to the Redwoods and followed the Pacific Hwy down, again, going to and from the big national parks, Yosemite, Sequoia, etc. We turned east from Bakersville and because my Tacoma had been so reliable, we decided to go into Death Valley from the west side through Valley Wells. I did not know there was a Naval training facility there until we had an F-16 buzz us from behind and over, which was both amazing and terrifying!! Further down the road we saw two other instances of F-16s zipping along at very low attitudes across the valley. After a few awesome days in Death Valley, we drove into Vegas, and cruised the strip (required, isn't it?) and on the way home, we picked up as much of Rt 66 as we could find, with our final hotel night being in an old 66 motel.

My Taco performed perfectly. It is a 2008 Prerunner 4.0L 2WD SR5, mainly stock except a few small mods that I've picked up here, and I try to keep it well-maintained including good performing tires. I prepared for the worst, but actually, other than occasionally looking over everything, the truck just rolled along with no issues at all. I didn't officially go off-roading, but we drove into some very rough country that I felt confident enough in navigating.

I plan on heading out again next month since I have some time to take off or lose. I will probably not rack up that many miles this time, mainly concentrating on the Colorado and Utah parks. I've owned several trucks, but this Tacoma has not only been my favorite, but also my most reliable.

A few photos of my Taco along the way: (Zion, US Rt50 in NV, Big Sur area, Sequoia Nat. Park near the General Sherman Tree)

I know this is an old post, but that's a great road trip! Estes Park is where I'm headed in a week or two. Nice photos!

    That's a hell of a trip. Any off-roading? Or mostly pavement/highways?

    ~7k into a ~20k road trip...

Colorado to Prudhoe Bay so far.

Killed a tire, gashed the door/cab/bed, both on Morrison Trail, got it stuck in the mud in the Yukon Territory, came the closest I have to rolling it on a trail in Fairbanks, almost sunk it yesterday along the Dalton Highway... Lots more fun to come!
