Have you ever been to a Supercross at Angel Stadium? When the bros lift the trucks as high as they do, it's easier to see that they have no front half shafts....

That's not the point. The sport is a "Model" for the looks and packages. The Off Road is suppose ( I thought) to go off road.

It's dirt track racing with jumps and a few obstacles. This is point. City folks and flatlanders go to one if these and think it's off roading. Their idea of off road, is off tarred roads. Non modified 2 wd manufactured vehicles are USELESS for most real variable off road conditions. I do understand getting "the look" because ground clearance is good, even for 2 wd......just offer a package for the Sport. All tacos are like Pre Rumners now with six lug wheels and 9 inches of clearance...which is good.

The real gimmick ? A locker on a 2 wd which has LSD to begin with, thinking it can be used off road.....big joke the first time you go out.

You can take the 2wd OR off payment. It just won't get you as far as a 4wd.
The rear does lock in both. You just won't have the front wheels to help.

Why are you saying this now? There has been a 2 wheel drive OR for 15 years.

I completely say correct me if I am wrong, but looking at the other posts from the OP, they sound like a Toyota Corporate employee trying to sell us all on the new features and such..... A lot of this post almost looks scripted. Feel free to correct me if I am wrong.

I admit that the feature can be interesting for perhaps the casual off-roader or trail rider who only occasionally goes off road, or those who occasionally get stuck in the sand on the beach. For the hard-core trail rider I feel it is more of a gimmick. My opinion of course.

I don't pretend to be a quick learner. I bought so many used Toyotas, I never was aware that was offered.

I am not against offering a locker as part of an option package on 2 wd trucks, I just think it's a gimmick having a 2 wd as an Off Road. Model and then still retaining a locking differential to justify it. Heck, 4 wd SR with a four banger is much more off road worthy then a OR 2 wd ever thought of being !

In 2 wd, the locker is no where near as effective as when used in 4 wd. You loose steerage with the locker on but with an open diff on front, the vehicle will tend to follow the front drive wheels, especially with ATrac or any off road traction control. it is for slow going and 2 wd trucks in sand or mud need all the momentum they can get....every comparison I can find indicates their efectivness is marginal for 2 wd.
I applaud Toyota for making the six lug, high ground clearance suspension standard. That's probably the best way to save 2 wd trucks from getting stuck.....not locking differentials.

    You are 100% right.
Since Jan and the revealing of the truck this forum seems to be infested with Toyota trolls.

I don't mind people who post actual information ( I actually greatly appreciate. because with out them we would know very little. ( @Jeff Lange is one of the best sources of factual information ) but the Trolls from Toyota salesmen factory are utter crap...:D
