Go ahead and do whatever you want. I couldn't possibly care any less. I've learned a long time ago never to argue with know-it-alls.....Myself? I'm more likely to listen to someone who IS an expert and has the evidence to back up his opinions in the form of trophies from some of the most prestegeous racing events in the world. I'm sure some back yard hack knows more than they do....

I love this quote - "The only fool bigger than the person who knows it all is the person who argues with him" - I see I'm in good company - LOL

LIGHTLY use pressurised air, and LIGHTLY tap the filter on a hard surface to jar any loose dirt from the filter. Even the most careful use of air pressure can cause the filter element to be compromised. Don't ry to get it immaculate clean. It is better to leave SOME dirt on the filter than to do damage to it by overly aggressively cleaning. Use a dust mask and eye protection.

Another self appointed filter expert here and I wouldn't run an oiled filter on my truck for any reason. I bought the hype and the K&N filter for my Jeep and the film of dirt on the wrong side of the air intake was a real issue for me. Maybe others don't care about dirt going into their engine, but I do. Living in the dusty desert that I do a good air filter is important. I tried everything with the K&N, run it clean, run it clogged and the same dirt in the intake would come back. The other thing is to really clean a K&N takes a weekend. The first day to wash and let it dry and the second to oil and let it soak in all the way. If I started Saturday it would be ready do go Monday morning.

I've only had my Tacoma long enough to change one air filter, but it took me about 2 minutes to do. (and the only reason it took so long was I hadn't done it before) Oh and the bonus to the K&N over the stock filter is I couldn't tell a bit of difference between them. Except that is in my wallet, which was quite a bit lighter.

"Bud" is a nickname....When I recall his real first name, I'll post it. He died about 5 years ago, but his son still runs the shop. He does airplane engines and tractor pullers

I'm a big fan of "following labeled directions". I'd bet there is a manufacturers suggested procedure for cleaning, and I'd tend to follow that. You know how advice from all these "self proclaimed experts" can be and all...... ;)

Why is it so hard for people to understand that dirt in your engine is very harmful? Its a fact that K&N's let a significant amount of dirt through because they are not as fine as your standard filter, (furnace air filters go by merv ratings, I don't know if its the same term for automotive air filters). The one thing that nobody talks about is the conditions the truck/car is subjected to. Most of us drive on clean paved roads for the most part and suck in very little dirt compared to others who live on dirt roads or drive in dusty conditions on somewhat of a regular basis. If your regularly drive in dust the K&N's are a really bad idea, if not then its probably not a huge deal but for the "gains" I wouldn't risk it.

The only way to get proper filtration and increase air flow is to have more surface area on the air filter.

I get that I can take it out but That wasnt my question I asked about cleaning it, my truck sees only desert and the freeway to get to the desert so I would rather keep it in there as a secondary filter since my throttle body was covered in dirt and I replace the OEM filter every trip and can't imagine the crap it would Let in without both filters ya know?

One can never have too many light bars.
I have the AEM drop in as well. The kicker for me that it doesn't have to be oiled. I just cleaned it with the hose at 30K and I so far haven't seen any issued with stuff getting through.

Glad your butt dyno is calibrated. I didn't read the full thread, butt I'm sure many say the same. Butt Dyno is like saying "My Pumpkin Latte tastes better that yours."

You lost it once you became a nurse. Pumpkin Lattes is all you have to compete with now. No wenching talk. Too many girls.

I'm a retired AF radar tech. Thanks for your service!
