There is Lake Alpine at one end of slick rock and Utica Reservoir at the other. Both nice with ample camping opportunities...

    Fernando,

The trail head for the typical north to south run is just off highway 4 near Lake Alpine (east of the town of Arnold).
From what I've read, most wheelers don't seem to camp at that lake, but near a bridge over Duck Creek, closer to the trail head. I've run the trail many years ago, but on a day-trip with my old crawler, from South to north.

    Here's a 5-year-old description of the trail on www.trails.com :

"The Slickrock trail is a moderate trail with one more difficult obstacle at the south end. The North Trail head starts you off of Hwy 4 at the west end of Lake Alpine. The trail passes some summer cabins and then takes you out onto the granite slabs along Silver Creek. There will be a "V" shaped canyon and then a steep granite descent which a well modified SUV should make easily. A few more creek crossings and you'll come upon "The Ladder", the most difficult obstacle on the trail. When traveling from Hwy 4 southbound you cross a deep stream right before this boulder field which adds to the difficulty of the climb. A longer wheelbase, 35" tires, and lockers will be most helpful on this last obstacle. Many SUV's turn around at this point and return the way the came in, while the more equipped will continue past The Ladder to beautiful campsites on the other side. The southern exit will take you Forest Rd 7N75. We always make the loop back up to Hwy 4 and enjoy a burger at the Lake Alpine lodge :) One thing to take not of, ATV's are not allowed on this trail."

Camped a little past the trailhead, a buddy was getting married on the other side of the dam Saturday afternoon so we didn't go very far in... my truck made camp, we went in a little ways friday night, but in SAS'd 80s yotas...won't make it past gatekeeper without sliders and tires at least, unless you want body damage...

    Thanksgiving Trip Anyone?

I was going to head to the East Coast to visit my family for the week of Thanksgiving. My work situation has changed and getting the whole week off isn't going to happen. However, I do still have that Thursday - Sunday off.

With this in mind I'm thinking of doing a longer distance off road/ camping trip. I'll have sliders by then and the ability to carry 37 gallons of fuel.

    Who wants to go?

Any suggestion on where to go?

Initially I was thinking Death Valley or the east side of the White Mountains. I don't want to go super far but want to take advantage of a four day weekend.

Or could we head north to Oregon along the coast?
