Didn't see a thread on this topic. I've been riding BMX since I was 5. Was a factory Racer during my teens then transitioned into racing Mountain bikes. Just got back into riding Flatland more for exercise and I just enjoy pulling manuals and tailwhips. Still working on getting the nose manual down again. Been a long time but it's just fun making the urban environment your playground.

My newest toy: Cult Pro BMX. Haven't installed the foot pegs yet for grinding but they are sitting next to the bike.

    Nice!

I've been enjoying mine (especially since the weather has cooled off). Only thing I've changed on mine is the pedals and grips. It weighs in at around 18lbs. Still working on the nose manual but it's harder than I remember lol.

Rode a Specialized 415 for years and all through college. Pushed the limits a little too much my junior year and had some nasty wrecks and also screwed up my knee. Had to call it quits. Traded it in for a Trek Mountain bike.

Having that 415 gave me amazing balance. I always assumed everyone could ride rear and front wheeling and endo. But once I traded up to a mountain bike I realized having 18 speeds going up a hill was a game changer and never went back.

Yeah man... I know the feeling of crashing hard. I got sent to the ER multiple times during my career through high school and the early part of college. I transitioned to Mountain Bikes after that and raced them until I was 35 and broke my elbow. That was the end of my competitive racing.

My last DH bike. Sold it last year because I didn't have the self control to ride it. I don't have the ability to not go "balls out" and I'll ride every time like it's my last.

I still love doing flatland tricks and it's not nearly as hard when I fall (which is quite often on a nose manual lol). Been teaching my daughter on her BMX (the white KHE in the picture) how to pull a regular manual. She's still working on a tail whip but she'll get it. We have a lot of "urban" environment to mess around on outside the neighborhood so that's fun to play around on.

Is that a Cult frame? Almost looks like my frame?

EDIT: I need to remove the back brake off mine since I never use it and it makes tailwhips damn near impossible with my set up.

Well, I guess I should elaborate on my two "big" wrecks. I never ran dirt trails or did huge jumps because I was too much of a wuss. But I did a lot of street, rails, stairs, tail whips, endo, and wheelies etc.
So, out of all my riding years the two wrecks that made me trade it in were:

During finals week I was riding down a big hill on campus to get to my test. Feeling like a badass doing full both wheel jumps over sidewalks and stuff. Then, chain came off the which made the pedal tension absent, which made my foot slip off the pedal and I flew over the handle bars about 15 ft forward. My arm, hands, and face were completely bloody. But still made it to my Chemistry 2 final. Like I said. Not a killer story to trade in my BMX bike. My next story is the one where I messed up my knee and had to trade in my bike. And it oh so awesome of a story.
You ready? Got drunk (of course), decided to jump my bike over pizza boxes in a parking lot. Pulled my front end up too high, bike got away from me, and slammed my knee cap straight down on the concrete. Couldn't walk without crutches for a month. Traded in the 415 for a Trek.

My awesome career ending injury. "Hold my beer and watch this" story exactly.

I'm trying to get back into it. I used to race BMX back in my younger days as well until I blew out my knee. The guy who owns the team I raced for recently gave me a cruiser to try out to see if I wanted to get back into racing. I went to a few practices that actually went a little better than I had hoped for but damn, I forget how much of a workout that is. I think I might try and get ready for this next year though!

Yeah.. I'm done racing. I just ride for fun now. It takes too long to heal up after a crash at 45. When I was a teenager I would be in the ER one weekend and racing the next. After my crash when I was 35 it took me over 6 months to heal up and regain full use of my arm. I still ride my road bike 25 miles a day but you are right about the BMX... It is a full body workout and I'm more sore after spending a couple hours pulling tricks on it than I ever am just cruising a constant rate on the road bike.

    I'm 51 and ride +size BMX
Some street, some park, lots of dirt jumps and I like um BIG
Going to Ray's in Ohio this Saturday
I also have a pretty sweet dedicated trials bike. Trials is WAY hard, great exercise and opens the door to endless urban fun. Just got it last year.

Exactly why I've got 2 BMX bikes.

Manuals are all about balance over the rear tire. It takes some practice but you will get it. It sounds cliche but it's like riding a bike.... Once you get it you'll never forget.
