The automotive world makes millions building impractical cars. If this diesel Colorado works becasue of the same mentality that a Miata or any "fun mobile" works, more power to them. Toyota people will take the cheapest, most durable truck they can find and put the biggest tires on it and "say" they off road when they really just travel in and out of their gravel driveway and instead, commute back and forth to work in it for 20 years and 200k miles. So, we have "ours" too. Our group is just a tad too cheap me thinks.

With the pricing on new Tacoma's, I wouldn't say "cheap" and "Tacoma" in the same sentence. There is so much fan-boying on this forum that even if the twins were superior in every way to the 3rd gen, they would still get bashed. I may not be looking at Tacoma's anymore due to their lack of configurations that suit me, so having the twins, the new Frontier and maybe the Ranger be great trucks is good for us, because it pushes Toyota to be better. I will never get the anti-diesel venom here- if you don't want one, fine, don't buy one, but stop trying to rationalize your lack of choice with someone else's desires.

Why ask the question or comment on a TW forum of all places....if you don't like the answers vs diesels. There are just as many GM fanboy's out their who buy their products overall today. You just won't find them in the midsize market. The idea is to listen to every ones opinion then form your own, not to discredit that of others . If you don't get an answer you like, just go over to the Colorado forum, including their diesel discussion, listen to what you want to hear, buy one and feel good about your purchase....until trade in time.

This idea is the same as a person posting a NE Patriots forum and wondering why many of the reposnses are in favor of the Patriots....well dah ...;-()

Building a bubble that is going to pop, how so? They have been doing extremely well lately in most all realms with many hits, strong sales and good financials.

So if something doesn't fit your needs/wants it is idiotic to have it? You probably haven't considered they are using this as a test bed also for other vehicles. People will pay a little extra to get a big bump in MPG which is another strong point of diesel motors. Look at how many Mercedes Blutecs you see running around, the TDI VW's or any of the other foreign manufacturers who's diesel car/suvs sales have been increasing. Charge a premium, get more service, sell more cars, spread it across a range is a good business sense. Some Cadillac products, the Lambda CUV's, commercial delivery vehicles and anything else in the midsize arsenal could be a great fit for this motor. While I agree it isn't for everybody people don't always think when they purchase, if so diesels would be a ton less frequent then we are seeing their growth dictate.

You know how much time this took? Not nearly as much as you think. The motor was already in production, they just had to adapt it to US emissions and NVH standards. If it reviews well it can make it in other products if they keep it smooth and quiet. Plus look at all the press it is generating. They already are selling every truck they buy, this even more. It is the only one of something that has been called for years ago.

I am glad to see it, will I buy one probably not. There are tons of diesel advocates that this will sell to (many on this forum alone). So maybe wait to see how it sells, reviews and lasts before spouting off how wrong and a failure it is/will be? Kudos GM.

The bubble logic is this; If you build a truck thats going to average just under 40k (diesel) and they ALREADY make a truck thats just under 40k (gas) and both have the same spec numbers, but the (gas) will out perform in the overall aspects, pop.....goes your bubble.

No one said it would be idiotic to have one. It would be idiotic to spend more money on a product, that you can already get.

GM, and many other companies need to provide a product that is efficiently priced, not marked up because its diesel. Yet, their bubble has started to fill already. Just 5 years ago you could buy a full size chevy for 25k. Now you'd be lucky to get a work truck with power locks for that price. How?, because their sales are good? Their sales are good so they, as many corporations do, mark up their prices and exploit the market. People need vehicles, like they need houses. They can blow up prices all they want and when the economy crashes, we'll all be left holding the bag.

I'll share a similar bubble example in the housing market. Just down the street two years ago a small, one street development popped up. They advertised on all the signs "150k". I stopped in one day, curious, grabbed a hand out and they had two, maybe three, floor plans. Ranging from 140k, to 150k, taxes, insurance, etc. included. And in just two years the houses jumped to 180k. So.....where did the 30k come from? House was ALREADY built! I walked in it....yet somewhere they were able to justify 30k add on.....strange to me.

I'll give you my opinion on Dodge's current strategy. I think its a great idea to saturate the market. They have a Dodge Ram Express....among other "trendy names". The express line however has their V-6 engine for 25-26k for your base line pricing. You can however add on the HEMI V-8 and still be at 30k....I think thats super competitive in this market. Granted Dodge has awful resale value....none-the-less, for people hunting a new truck....thats a pretty good price.
